Really...? The highest selling game on Vita by vgchartz estimates is Uncharted: Golden Abyss at a little over 1 million units. Nothing else broke a million. Sales like that are fine for smaller games, but for major releases it's just not good enough. EDIT: (since you added stuff)
The Vita port of FFX not tracking far off from the PS3 version more likely means that the PS3 version is just underperforming, plus it's only out in Japan which is Vita's strongest market. That there 'hasn't really been anything since 2012' is the evidence that major devs aren't happy with software performance. Batman Arkham Origins: Blackgate performed poorly on both systems and wasn't well received. |
However, 48% of Vita Software sales being digital means Uncharted likely sold more than that. PS+ sales get added on top of that.
So the most recent cross format mainstream title spinoff that was on both formats underperformed on all handheld systems. Fair enough, but remember the 3DS installbase is approx 6x that of Vita. So if Vita outsells anything at all, it's outperforming the equivalent 3DS sales.
And Final Fantasy is clearly underperforming on PS3 as Vita sales aren't too far off.
This is my point. Vita excels, in anything, and your response is "underperformance" elsewhere. Maybe Vita is just punching above it's weight? This would be the most likely explanation given how strongly the smaller companies like Aksys and XSEED are supporting Vita. They aren't doing it out of the goodness of their hearts, they've clearly found a market that is receptive to their products.
