I hate articles like this. Yeah, I shouldn't care that I am updating my gaming hardware and expect it to be far greater than what I already had in my home. When I buy a new console I shouldn't care about which console my $400-$500 is going and which I find to be better bang for my buck.
Nothing worse than people telling you how you should think. |
This.
Somebody should write an article called "Why journalists shouldn't tell you how gamers should think"....
While I agree with the overall notion that the "war" between PS4 and One is largely a waste of time, I must object to the title of the article. To say that resolution and framerate doesn't matter is ridiculous at best. Would he rather we were still coding VGA output? Has he ever tried to play a game at 20 FPS or below? It's unbearable. If he had ever tried playing a game on his PC that it clearly wasn't powerful enough to handle, he would know how important frame rates are to the overall experience.

Framerate has a direct effect on gameplay, it can't just be dismissed as 'unimportant'. Even resolution matters to an extent, although at resolutions like 720p and 1080p the difference becomes smaller.
To the OP we dont play games on SD tube TV's anymore like you mentioned in the "arcade days" everyone now has HD TV's. I think all next gen games should be in 1080p 60fps or 30fps depending on the game or course and what works better. But for 1 system not to be able to do that after you fork out $600 is BS and a disservice to its cutomer in this new generation..but to say it does not matter is BS we live in 2014 not 1981 when arcades were hot. So to you I say "My ass resolution does not matter"!!!!
They don't matter my ass. They matter more than PR non existent features.

My favourite game of all time run at 480p/30fps. (Resident Evil 4)
There's really only one reason I find makes sense:
If you compare Xbox One and PS4 price points, you'd assume that the XboxOne would have the better specs between the two platforms, instead you get games that fall to 19 fps. The game is still playable by definition, but is inferior compared to the game on the competitors console, which happens to be 100 dollars less. Now I'm not saying PS4 can do 1080p- 60fps on everything, but thus far its had the better looking/playing of all the multiplats as well as exclusives.
Obviously the Xbox One isn't that much weaker than the PS4, and it really comes down to companies understanding the architecture of the system properly.
In other words, resolution/fps matter because you have a choice of buying two consoles, and you'll probably pick the one that can do multiplatform games better.

B-b-b-but... Power of the Cloud! MS said PS4 can't do the internet or dedicated servers!
