You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I think Gears will have far less impact this gen. Its latest installment did not fair well and I think franchise fatigue has set in. Is there possible future story development for the series? Will anyone care? I'm not sure if the fanbase will retain it as a must have, new IPs will be distracting them.

GOW: Judgement was done by PEOPLE CAN FLY not EPIC.

EPIC, the guys that made GOW 1,2 and 3? That had Gears parents, Blezinsky and Rod?

And Epic is making the next gears? My point is valid.

Rod and some people that worked on Gears while at Epic will invalidate your opinion again.

Seriously /facepalm, right?
OK, for anybody that is reading this thread but didn't read or can't comprehend the original article:
MS is not paying Epic to develop GOW exclusively for XBone, like they did with EA and Titanfall.
They are actually buying the IP from them, so MS will themselves develop future GOW games (via Black Tusk Studio for next game).
Epic will no longer be involved in developing GOW.

Although I'm not especially impressed with buying old gaming IP like this (it's really a step below licencing film/TV IP that hasn't yet been used in games),
I would at least rate it above the "purchased exclusivity" approach that MS used with Titanfall, this means MS will actually be funding exclusive games development,
rather than just paying to prevent an already existing game from also being offered for other platforms.

Not really, all the hardcore loyalists were probably going to buy XBOs as it is.

To me, it's just more Halo/Gears/Forza. Yay.

The question was would it win back gamers. Meaning for what ever reason they left MicroSoft. My guess is if they left it was not because they thought the next Gears of War was coming to another platform. So, if they did not leave because of that I do not see this winning them back. It would be like Sony winning gamers back with another Uncharted. Established IPs keep people happy, so what Microsoft did was not lose something. Still good news for them assuming next entry turns out well, but it is appeasing your base (which is fine) not winning new fans or reclaiming ones you lost.

shikamaru317 reported that Xbox One has seen much more sales today on amazon, and some X1 games saw significant increases as well, so the announcement is certainly boosting sales.

You should research what the word valid means.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Correlation =/= Causation

You're undermining your own point there with the games reference... If peope would buy XBone and many of it's current games, they don't need a promise of a future game that hasn't yet entered development in order for them to buy a console.  Realistically, very few of those Amazon customers knew of this news yet.  When MS starts development, and starts publicizing the next GOW heavily, that is when it could significantly affect sales.  But as another poster mentioned, this type of move is one to keep still loyal fans happy, it isn't going to stop fans who already bought a PS4 from continuing to buy titles on that platform, nor will it do much for those former fans who already decided to buy a PS4 but haven't done so yet, nobody is going to say: Infamous and DriveClub look GREAT and PS4 is the superior experience for x-platforms, but nah, I'll just forgo that because in 2 years a new GOW will come out exclusively on XBone because MS paid for it.

I am actually surprise by this comment.. You really think that a next gen Gears of war running unreal engine 4 will not have a big impact ? wow..

I agree with Chark. This is the kind of feeling I get with this new gen - gamers are looking for new experiences and while I have no doubt that Gears will sell very very well (4M+ at least depending on the console base at the time) it wont be as huge a system seller as it was in the x360 era. Still I think it is a good move by MS to secure what has been one of its biggest exclusives. However, I wonder if xbox gamers who were excited by the idea of a new tripleA IP will be disappointed to learn it is a Gears sequel.

Doesn´t MS has a really strong stable of Firstparty exclusives now? The Forza games usually sell around 4-5mn each, Halo around 10mn each, Gears around 6mn each and Fable around 3-4mn each. This is a collective potential of about 20-25mn sales for each iteration of their franschises, quite impressive if you ask me :).
