Forums - Nintendo - 3rd Parties to blame for lack of Wii U support?

It's Nintendo's fault for not creating a system 3rd parties WANT to develop for. Whose idea was it to make the WiiU underpowered, or to add a pointless touchscreen, certainly not the publishers. Nintendo made a system for Nintendo, just like they always do.

I can guarantee that even if the Wii U was as strong as XB1 or PS4, they would still make excuses on gimped or missed games no matter what. I was talking about PS3/XB360 games that could have been properly ported over.

No, even the gamecube with its bad sales was supported by third parties. It got most of that generations high profile multiplats.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

No.

Get over it, you apologists need to get real. Its not as simple as port it and sale 300k and profit. The time and resources are better spent else where, its a better investment to start a new game for PS4/X1/PC then to waste time porting one to the wiiu.

Just look at the pathetic Ghosts sold on wiiu, it is now at 7% of what PS4 sales are and 10% of X1. If you lump PS4/X1 sales together WiU Ghosts sales accounted for less then 4% of nxt gen sales. you really want to see how pointless a wiiu version is.

Lump all versions together, PS3 PS4 360 X1 WiiU, then the wiiu version accounts for 0.0066% of the overall CodGhosts sales. so yahhhh.

It's just that 3rd parties didn't want anything to do with Nintendo's latest home console despite it having the more capabilities than XB360 and PS3 have, and will also miss out this year on games like MGS5 and Thief just to name a few.

Its more about the install base and not the tech when comparing last gen titles, then more about the tech then the install base when comparing current gen, to put it simply, the wiiu release timing could not have been any worse.

Nintendo have never worked towards creating a good developer environment, so; no, it's not 3rd parties that are to blame. Like I said in the UNITY thread; Sony and MS have specialized in 3rd parties, Nintendo have specialized in themselves.

I don't really blame the 3rd parties at all. I really don't think it's wise to talk trash about the Wii U, because we are so early in this gen and as we have seen before, consoles can turn it around, but if Nintendo isn't going to make sure their AAA titles are ready then why should the 3rd parties make sure their games are ready. Gamers that play Xbox and Playstation are buying them these days for the multi-platform games. It's the reason why PS3 and Xbox 360's console sales last gen were almost identical.

Nintendo plenty of times have taken franchises like F-Zero and Starfox to 3rd parties and had them make the entire game.   Namco is currently working on Smash Bros, and with the "Pokken Tournament" trademark registered, it sure does look like they let them use Pokemon to make a fighting game.  Money is the universal language, and the best way to get 3rd party developers involved is to help them make money.   If Pokken is a real thing, then Nintendo basically just gave Namco millions of dollars.   Same goes for Tecmo and Hyrule Warriors.  It may not sell gangbusters in the U.S. but in Japan the Musou games are like COD in America.  They just keep coming out and selling ton's of copies every time.  Now combine that with Zelda, and they just gave the 3rd party millions.

Can't blame 3rd parties since they gave it a fair chance in the beginning, until it was clear that it wasn't going to sell well.

Wii U launched with around 30 titles, most of them 3rd party.  A huge initial support.

but the games that were ported over sold like crap

You mean the ports that were missing features, released months later and/ore more expensive? I can't imagine why.

Have there been any multiplat games released on the Wii U with equivalent features, release date and price? I know of Rayman Legends and that did just as well on the Wii U as it did the PS360 despite an install base 75 million lower than each.

Surely if it was worth porting Rayman Legends for only 230k and 300k sales on the 360 and PS3 respectively, then the same could be said for Wii U ports.

rayman legened isnt even a AAA title. Besides, the ps3 version sold more copies even with GTAV eating all the cake the same month.

nope, not even close. Those games arent anywhere near as popular or profitable as COD and to think otherwise is laughable. Heres the thing, Ninty is STILL in it for themselves. So they got some eastern 3rd party devs to work on THEIR games. So what? they've been doing that for years. At the end of the day those are still Ninty games and they are not actual 3rd party games, not to mention its only a handful of Japanese devs what about the western ones which quite frankly are getting bigger by the day.
