Nintendo have never worked towards creating a good developer environment, so; no, it's not 3rd parties that are to blame. Like I said in the UNITY thread; Sony and MS have specialized in 3rd parties, Nintendo have specialized in themselves.

Nintendo plenty of times have taken franchises like F-Zero and Starfox to 3rd parties and had them make the entire game.   Namco is currently working on Smash Bros, and with the "Pokken Tournament" trademark registered, it sure does look like they let them use Pokemon to make a fighting game.  Money is the universal language, and the best way to get 3rd party developers involved is to help them make money.   If Pokken is a real thing, then Nintendo basically just gave Namco millions of dollars.   Same goes for Tecmo and Hyrule Warriors.  It may not sell gangbusters in the U.S. but in Japan the Musou games are like COD in America.  They just keep coming out and selling ton's of copies every time.  Now combine that with Zelda, and they just gave the 3rd party millions.
