The Wii-U won't cause Nintendo billions upon billions of losses

so never

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Sony did a bit of a rebrand on the PS3 , gone was the full title of"Playstation 3" in the Spiderman fonts and replaced by the simple sleek PS3 logo we now associated with. It was very subtle but worked, and then it was backed up by games games and more games. I think Ninty just need to wipe the slate clean with Wii U and rebrand, keep the Wii U name if they wish but change the logo so its looks different and more distinctive than the Wii logo, and then that will help sove the confusion issue. Then do a 3DS, back it with as many first party exclusives as possible and use a full range from their wealth of IPs, garner a bit of decent 3rd party support and things might just turnaround.

I have said in another thread, Nintendo would have less to lose going all out supporting the Wii U , rather than leaving it to tick over or just abandoning the system. They would rebuild faith and trust in their brands and the momentum would carry them into the next gen in good shape. Sony cteate a lot of good will with their brilliant support of the PS3, and its paying off with the PS4

Nope their problems are so different.

PS3's problem was Price...and poor marketing initially.

Also PS3 always had this "it'll blow up when this game releases" hype around it due to the inevitable GTA4, FFXIII, MGS4, GT5 launches. Of course we then got surprise 3rd party hits (Fallout, Oblivion, Assassins Creed, COD) & 1st Party hits (LBP, Uncharted 2 etc.)

WiiU has Mario Kart, SSB & Zelda left still....but with how Mario 3D World did things don't look so optimistic. And it's already got the first mover + low price advantage.

On the other hand with PS3, the first high profile exclusive, MGS4, sold in line with previous games in the series.

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Too many things different this time. PS3 was priced waaaaay too high but that was because Sony packed in everything but the kitchen sink. Backwards compatible, card reader, ton of USBs, wireless, Blu Ray, most power, etc. also, it launched a year later than the competition.

On the other side, Wii U launched with relatively weak hardware, and lack of bonus and standard features. It also had a full year's headstart to build some steam. It failed at that.

If the Wii U succeeds (*fingers crossed*) it won't be because it folloed Sony's route of cutting features and lowering the price. Wii U's already pretty cheap. It will have to find other avenues.

The PS3 was a miracle for the most part. The WII U hasn't a chance in hell of ever recovering like that and to make matters worse all of their franchises lost alot of power too which makes me doubt that it can top the gamecube.

No offense, but what in the literal fuck are you talking about?

Their franchises haven't lost power. Mario 3D World is selling nicely, considering the install-base. Mario Galaxy sold 10 million+ copies on the strength of FAR more Wii owners at the time. Same with NSMBWii.NSMBU, by the way, still has an over 50% attach-rate, last I checked.

And Mario Kart and Smash Bros. are still two of the hottest gaming brands around. And if the next 3D Zelda is as epic and amazing as it deserves to be, people will care, and people will buy it.

After the release of Nintendo's financial forcast followed by all the gloom and doom articles, one like myself looks back and remembers the early days of the PS3. A time when Sony, kindof like Nintendo at the start of this gen, thought their brand was unbeatable, and it end up costing them billions and the PS3 itself not even turning a profit until 2010. Thing is, Sony did a complete turn around with the PS3 by turning it into a strong console with a strong lineup and eventually becoming one of the best selling home consoles in history at 82.5 million and still going strong, and eventually becoming a success story overall. So the thought is, is it possible for the Wii-U to turn around like the PS3 did? While I'm pretty sure the Wii-U is nowhere near where the PS3 was at this point in it's life, it still hasn't cost Nintendo as much as the PS3 did for Sony. What do you guys think?

I think it will happen like the 3DS. GAMES GAMES GAMES

Pocky Lover Boy!

Slim to none. Wii U won't be able to stay on the market as long as PS3, and will never have the third party support that PS3 had. Nintendo need a machine that hits a wider market like the Wii in order to be properly successful: Wii U will never have the visibility or accessibility to be that device, even as the price comes down. Unless Nintendo come up with a new market expansion idea, Wii U will be a niche device were profitability comes from achieving relatively high volumes of first party software sales. And I can't see Nintendo coming up with a good piece of market expansion software, because they haven't had a true new idea like that since 2008.

1. PS3 had sold a lot more by now 2. PS3 had power in regard to the competition 3. Sony First party studios were awesome 4. Ninetendo have mario and er thats it

0, just let it die with no goodbyes

Wii  U needs 3rd party support in order for that to happen.. And in order to have 3rd party support then Wii U needs to be a powerful machine......... which is not. Let's hope that 1st  party games and tons of advertising are going to be enough to push it to 30-40 million.
