Anything's possible, but the problems with the Wii U right now are quite different than what the PS3 faced.

The PS3 faced:
- Late release behind 360
- Extremely high price point
- Complex architecture for 3rd party developers

The Wii U released first this generation, is at a reasonable price, and is a simple architecture. The problems it faces are a lot different and I think can be traced back to the target audience. The original Wii sold so well because it targetted the casual gamers and families. Casual gamers and families are not going to spend as much money on gaming and in turn, probably feel that their current Wii is perfectly satisfactory for what they want right now. That's going to be tough to convince them otherwise.

PS3 honestly really only had one huge problem -- the price.

And the price coming down was really just a matter of time.

The other fundamentals of the console such as developer support (which leads to a large, robust library of games in every genre) and relatively well future proofed hardware were both there.

Sony's marketing wasn't as good as Microsoft's but it was never as poor as Nintendo's either. It was generally decent most of the time. So there wasn't a huge flaw there either.

Wii U has far more issues like the tablet/smartphone business taking away casual shoppers, the Wii U tablet not being a successful audience hook like the Wiimote was, bad third party support, bad marketing, unappealling hardware to hardcore players (too much like PS3/360 they already own), casuals becoming less interested in old Wii ____ franchises, etc. etc. etc. 

Which was had the worse launch? Wii U or ps3.

I didn't really follow sales back when the ps3 launched.

PS3 had a rocky launch but it was never as bad as the WiiU. The PS3 just needed more first party titles and a better price. Both of those were accomplished in time. The WiiU's problems run much deeper. A lot of people wanted a PS3, they just didn't want to pay $600. Very few people want to buy a WiiU for half that price.

I'd love for it to happen. I hate seeing Nintendo doing so badly. I mean, even with the ps3 doing badly, it wasn't the main thing that was hurting Sony. On the other hand, weak WiiU sales are really hurting nintendo.

PS3 had started to stabilize a bit by its 2nd Nov/Dec in the US

It's possible because of the tie ratio due to games like Super Mario 3D world however..by this time even the PS3 was far ahead than the Wii U I believe

It's in a much rougher position. Sony's issues were clear. Price was the big one followed by difficult hardware architecture. The Wii U has more issues that will be harder to fix. They did face similar issues with the 3DS which were overcome largely by strong first party support, but the home console market is more competitive.

Doesn't look great, but I actually really think their hardware is appealing. If they could get the software to back it up, they'll be alright, but it's a question of what is in development.
