When the Wii U can capture games like...you know...anything from Bethesda, multiple mainline Final Fantasies, Kingdom Hearts, Castlevania, all fighting games (not just niche ones like Smash), sleeper hits like Demon Souls, an exclusive Metal Gear, Uncharted and user bases that appreciates yearly releases of games like Madden, FIFA, NBA2K, COD...then maybe the Wii U can stay outside PS3's door.

Sony's early PS3 problems were unique to Sony, do not know why people continually try to extend it to Nintendo.

The PS3 in its 14th month (the Wii U current timeline) saw the start of massive 3rd party support on the console (both exclusive and non), It was getting all the games that the x360 was getting, got an exclusive Metal Gear that came out during the Summer, Irrational Games games redid bioshock, Uncharted was turning into a sleeper hit...events the Wii U will never get...and these were just the game portions, not even counting redesigns and price drops.

LTD sales ending for that quarter were pushing 13 million, the Wii U will be lucky to half that.

I rate the chance at 15%. That is to say I am 85% certain that the Wii install base is mostly people who aren't invested in being mulch-generational console owners. But there is a 15% chance that once Wii U hits the Wii's launch price I'll be proven wrong and all those first time console buyers who bought Wii will suddenly decide they do want to have a nexgen experience after all. Given PS3=PS2/2 , roughly, then if Wii U can pull off another PS3 they are looking at about a max of 50M in sales. At this stage that would be an amazing end result for Nintendo.

Its definitely not to late for the Wii u! I think its really naive to think that the Wii u is doomed or that Nintendo as a company is doomed. I may not like them recently and think the wii u is super underwhelming and over priced but i do see some good in it. Nintendo just needs to deliver the games! New ips! New games from established franchises and gain third party support! Stop with the gimmicks and focus on the games for gamers.

If they are able to that with a price drop and better advertising then maybe things will turn around, however i dont see them winning this gen.

Nothing. PS3's success came from a perfect storm of quality exclusives and major third-party support in the latter half on 2008 and onwards. Nintendo might still be able to turn it around with some of the big exclusives coming out in these next two years, but it's difficult for me to imagine Wii U ever coming close to PS3 levels of non-failure. If Wii U sales even reach 50 million, Nintendo should breathe a sigh of relief. If it sells under 30 million, I'll personally write it off as an unmitigated disaster.

You have to put everything into perspective here. In order to change the ps3 situation dramatically, Sony invested billions of dollars (and lost billions of dollars for that matter in exchange of marketshare). I highly doubt Nintendo will invest that much money into the wiiU, they will just ride it out untill 2016-2017 and release a new console/hardware.

You're also forgetting that Sony did indeed invest billions of dollars to "save" the Ps3 (although they never got that investment back). I doubt Nintendo will ever invest that much in their home console.
