Too many things different this time. PS3 was priced waaaaay too high but that was because Sony packed in everything but the kitchen sink. Backwards compatible, card reader, ton of USBs, wireless, Blu Ray, most power, etc. also, it launched a year later than the competition.
On the other side, Wii U launched with relatively weak hardware, and lack of bonus and standard features. It also had a full year's headstart to build some steam. It failed at that.
If the Wii U succeeds (*fingers crossed*) it won't be because it folloed Sony's route of cutting features and lowering the price. Wii U's already pretty cheap. It will have to find other avenues.
