They've been doing a better job with the Castlevania franchise than IGA has for the past few games. Castlevania Judgment and Harmony of Despair are garbage, while Curse of Darkness is sort of meh, has some good ideas to its gameplay, and Order of Ecclesia is so so. As a Castlevania fan myself, my original opinion of Mercury Steam getting it is how much they destroyed the Castlevania timeline, but when I finally gave it a chance, decided to take it as a reboot, a completely different series, it is a different take on the series, and they in no way attempt to make the series their own. Them also adding Lords of Shadow to each title in the series they want to point out that it's in a different timeline. Lords of Shadow is my favorite PS3 game right behind Infamous 2. Lords of Shadow Mirror of Fate is a great game mixing classic style, Lords of Shadow combat, and exploration style very well into one game. It's a bit easy, but get 100% of the items /scrollsand replay the game on hardcore difficulty to make the checkpoints less forgiving with decent difficulty. Opinion only, but with only two games, and a third I'm getting on day one, or atleast however long it takes Amazon to ship it to me, Mercury Steam is the newest to dev to be added to my list of favorites. So while I have no interest in an unannounced game, I'll atleast wait and see until it's announced before I brush it off. *edit* And just because it seems the need to show proof of everything now. If you base it off skill, then maybe this series of videos I made will just help show how much of a CV fan I am. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJIateKABtQ&list=PLB905DD74DCE5746E |
I agree with Kupo. I dont think the series needs to return to IGA because personally, I think he has run out of idea's. It does need to return to somebody in Japan though.

Then multiple endings. Maybe even 2 played co-op local+online play witha friend...yeah something like that would be sick. |
No it wouldn't be. What does any of that do to ensure we have a great Castlevania?

That means its not last gen. It will most likely be different than Castlevania 2.

A reply to both since your posts are connected...
I'm not some old school gamer that wants to see SOTN made over and over. They already remade Castlevania SOTN on next gen consoles and called it Dark Souls. It was awesome. I am fine if they take it in a ne direction and actually hope they do. In fact something like ZombieU strikes me as a game that Castlevania could use as an inspiration to change for the better. More gritty and engaging...
I just hate the path they decided to take with the series. I see that some people like it, and I respect that and not calling your tastes wrong...but as far as I am concerned I'm not touching this series till something changes. RE4 was a huge departure for the franchise but it was actually good and groundbreaking and became my favorite game in the series. To me LoS was a mish mash of other better games with focus on visual presentation and dull story with gameplay and art style trying to 1up each other on which one can put me to sleep sooner.
Imagine LoS as an 8bit or 16 bit game...exactly as it is with the core gameplay mechanics but without the visuals and presentation. My god would it suck.

I agree 100%. The way you feel about LoS is exactly how I feel about it. I was just turning away the idea that it needs IGA because it doesnt. Castlevania needs to return to Japan because it needs go be redefined on a game design level not a tech or writing level, they only thing Mercury Steam "debatebly" did.

I think your argument is more that it's not that it's not Castlevania.
From what you explained in a previous post, I don't really agree for the most part, that you're required to beat the bosses how they want you to beat them, not how you want to beat them. Whenever fighting most bosses, you can do whatever you want to damage them, and at the end of the battle you're required to destroy statues to finish Cornell off, or do a sequence of very easy QTEs for other bosses. That doesn't take away from the remaining time you fought the boss any way you wanted to fight them, it's ending with them as to what they want to show off in the cutscenes or story sequence.
The whole you're required to kill these enemies or kill enemies while solving a puzzle isn't very frequent. Take Castlevania 64 for instance. There are a lot of CV fans that don't like it, I do, but in the first level of the game, skeletons come from the ground while you progress through the stages and hit switches to progress to the next area. Is that any different from what Lords of Shadow did in a few parts here and there? No. Even Lament of Innocence requires you to go to specific parts and hit switches to allow you to progress. A lot of rooms lock when you first enter them, requiring you to defeat the monsters in them to proceed as well. Lords of Shadow is similar to those games plus others like Devil May Cry, God of War, and the large majority of 3D level based games that require you to solve puzzles to progress.
Lords of Shadow Mirror of Fate on the other hand is more like Castlevania mixed with exploration types such as SotN. There's only one boss in the game you're required to use one of the accessories you acquire to stand any chance at dodging his attacks. And similarly, in Order of Ecclesia, you're required to use one spell very similar to this accessory to dodge the first bosses attacks. Every other boss in the game you can do whatever. There are only two parts in the game where you need to turn a level to open a door while zombies are coming from the ground. The accessories and such, the items required to progress through the game are just like in any exploration CV. In many exploration based CV games you're required to get certain items to proceed to certain areas and nothing different is required of Mirror of Fate.
It's your opinion and that's fine. I'm explaining why I don't agree with it.
Sounds like an FPS game to me... maybe they'll surprise with a TPS
