Forums - Gaming - Castlevania dev's new game for Xbox One, PS4 is "completely different," not coming to Wii U

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow developer Mercury Steam is working on a new project for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC that is "completely different" from the fantasy series it has been known for during recent years.

Producer Dave Cox made the announcement during a recent roundtable interview session for Lords of Shadow 2attended by GameSpot. He also confirmed that this project will skip the Wii U, but did not explain why.

Though Cox wouldn't go into more detail about this next game, he teased in 2012 that Mercury Steam has a couple of "really cool ideas" in the works, adding that "it's no secret that I'm a big fan of Contra and I'd like to do something in that universe."

Also in the interview, Cox explained that Mercury Steam had a number of ideas that never made it into Lords of Shadow 2. These ideas, including unspecified combat mechanics, may come to fruition in the developer's new game, Cox said.

"Making a game is a learning experience," he said, noting that lessons learned during one project are often applied to the next.

Finally, Cox brought some bad news for gamers hoping to play Lords of Shadow 2 on Xbox One or PlayStation 4. Despite considering the option in 2013, Cox said Konami has no plans to port the game to those new systems because it would have meant changing the game engine significantly.

"It would mean kind of taking five steps back," he said.

Asked if Konami could contract another studio to port the game to Xbox One and PS4, Cox said, "I suppose it's not out of the question, but it's not something that's on our radar right now."

Lords of Shadow 2 launches for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on February 25. It is the final installment in the series to be developed by Mercury Steam, though Konami has not ruled out moving the series forward with a new studio.

That's great but is one of these games going to be actually good? Doubt it...

After playing the 2D release that just came out on Xbox Live few months ago one has to wonder if these guys are just trolling Castlevania or absolutely don't get it.

Hopefully I'm wrong, but if not hope it bombs hardcore and Konami gives it to another dev team.

How is "not coming to WiiU" -> "completely different"?

must-have-list for platforms i don't own yet:

WiiU: Donkey Kong

XBone: Dead Rising 3, Ryse

interesting. i hope its a Hack and slash game. i heard lord of shadows was a great game, so this could be interesting.

EDIT: Nevermind I read it wrong, thought it was a new Castlevania by Mercury Steam.

Hope it's something else, but I hope this time it's a better reboot than Lords of Shadows.

Thank God they're not working on Castlevania anymore. Please hand the franchise back to Igarashi so we can have good Castlevania games again.

What is scary is that their next project is most likely shitting on Contra. Their was a Teaser at E3 for Contra around the time they started talking about wanting to do something with it. He said his main target audience if he was to do Contra would CoD fan's.

They don't get it. I saw an interview with some mercury steam members months ago in a spanish tv program, and they spent most of the time talking about story, emotions and all that superfluous crap.
