1. Game reveals.  Nintendo consoles are almost always absent from them whereas Sony consoles are right there.
2. Follow up press materials.  Sony consoles are noted, Nintendo consoles are not.
3. Preess kits.  I'd get press kits on Sony and MS consoles long before I received one, if at all, for Nintendo consoles.
4. Press events.  Events would cover Sony and MS consoles and openly refuse to discus Nintendo consoles.
5. General PR.  Not even acknowledging a Nintendo console version even exists until just prior to game launch.
6. Bulk marketing.  TV, print and online ads would many times not even include the Nintendo console or would do so only minimally.

The combination of the above since the beginning and the difference in target audience has mean that CoD was never going to do as well on Nintendo consoles as Sony and MS.    Even if the target audiences were equal across all 3 console makers, Nintendo consoles would have fallen behind and stayed behind because the effort to establish the brand on Nintendo consoles was absolutely atrociaous by comparison.

The sales we see today are a result of the failed brand development and indifferent target audience.   Anyone claiming it was solely just one of those factors and not both is either ignoring somethign to push an agenda or was simply unware of how badly Activision handled the brand on Nintendo consoles.

I think thats because of timing issues. I think Nintendo's Wii U's sales are a result of an audience that refuses to form on their console so Activision isn't even willing to budge. The Wii U isn't even an option to them because I think most are going to cut the Wii U out of the equation once last gen console development is phased out. The Wii U failed to impress before that time so I think they are judging based on that. EA hasn't even appeared with Battlefield 3 on the Wii U even though they promised and I think thats from an internal disagreement with EA.

Maybe, but that ignores the success of th eWii completely and only suggests the Wii U sales are bad because of the Wii U.  CoD sales are bad on Wii U because the target audience is broader and the brand on Nintendo consoles was poorly handled.  You can't expect sales to suddenly increase massively on the next console when you've shit on the fanbase for years prior.

As for EA, who really knows that was all about.  I think that early support was a mix of John Riccitiello trying to work with Nintendo and then being ousted which stalled the working relationship and the other portion being the Origin speculation.  But as I said, all speculation.

I am not buying that Acitivison is shitting on Nintendos audience, I believe they are sick of having to dumb down games for Nintendo to catch up. The "broad" audience Nintendo gained did not care for those types of games anyway. Sony and Microsoft gathered the casuals and kids who care about those games. Activision seems to know how to tap into cauals with titles like Guitar Hero and the like. I dont think Destiny will be as successful but they are placing their bets. They figured that out once World at War came out that the Wii's audience would not be . By the time World at War came out the sales were huge for the Wii and still didn't yield desireable results. Ubisoft definitely made hand over fist on the original Wii though.

They don't sell 8 GB models anymore.   Haven't for quite a long while.

And I think the Wii U is the only 8th gen console that allows for external HDD's.

Oh? Because I just bought one for my sister that was 8GB  the Just dance + Nintendoland version.

Looks like the UK still sells them in that bundle.  They stopped selling them in the US and Japan back in June.  Some parts of Europe I know no longer sell them too.  Surprised the UK still has them.

That's a separate factor.  There is internal marketing and then external partner marketing.  MS does indeed do more external partner marketing for Activisions' CoD than do either Sony and Nintendo.  However, that doesn't alter the fact that Nintendo gets far less internal marketing than do Sony and MS.  And by a very long shot.  I can attest to this from my experiences going to Activion press events and being told they would nto talk ro answer any questions regarding anything to do with the Nintendo SKU.  Would it benefit Nintendo some to extend a marketing olive branch to Activision for CoD?  Probably not.  That ship sailed many years ago.  But we know Nintendo is willing to do it as evidenced by the Skylanders bundle and marketing.  But that goes back to target audience and having not fucked up the brand development and growth of the IP for the console to begin with as was done with CoD.

What are good examples of internal marketing from Activision that they show for Sony opposed to Nintendo?

1. Game reveals.  Nintendo consoles are almost always absent from them whereas Sony consoles are right there.

Yep. Nintendo dug their own grave by once again by creating an inferior console that is barely above last gen standards (the second time in a row), but the problem is the casuals arent in to lure the third parties their way. Most of the serious third party titles never made it to the original Wii so once a good portion switch consoles and last gen consoles start to lose support the Wii U is screwed. The writing is on the wall and the shovel sticking out of the Wii U's grave has Nintendos own fingerprints all over it.

but the other versions also have glitches. Even the PS54 had some minor framerate issues when it launched. Fixed with a patch. WIi U patch fixed the framerate issues on Ghosts also. You annot expect a game that comes out on 5 platforms to be glitch free unless they delay it for ages to get all the bugs out.

The issue is the audience is not there. The audience has left long ago. Hence why I said earlier Activision need to build a new audience on Wii U (i.e. Wii U owners only), however that will be hard or almost impossible as the console isn't selling that well and because most people these days have at least two consoles.

There was an audience, and there still is a potential one, but Activision is doing a fine job of driving them away.

no there isnt, the audience left and moved on to PS PC and MS systems long ago, the declining sales of COD games on Wii (and DS) and the fact that both PS4 and Xbone versions did much better the Wii U ones despite being launch titles prove this. THere not on WIi U it is what it is. ANd as for DLC, only 1/3 of the users even buy DLC still think its important.

I wonder what excuses people will use when Watchdogs flops on WIi U or at the very least does the worst and judging by preorders its doing the worst

Of course there's an FPS audience on Nintendo consoles. Besides the COD ports, Goldeneye 007 also did well on Wii. And DLC is important because of what it represents; equal treatment. Nintendo gamers got sick of being treated like crap.

Watch Dogs will flop on Wii U because it will be a shitty unoptimised 360 port on a system with just 5 million consoles in the wild.

It´s Activision´s own fault that Call of Duty: Ghosts for the Nintendo Wii U does not sell good because their not supporting the Nintendo Wii U version, and they announced that before the game was released!!! And because DLC is very important for Call of Duty: Ghosts gamers, no one purchased the Nintendo Wii U version which has no DLC!!!

I knew this comment would pop up sooner rather than later.

They're not supporting the Wii U version because a whole four people purchased the game.  They're not going to spend time and money releasing DLC in the future when the game didn't sell well.  This specific DLC was free, but when porting the paid DLC over won't gain them a profit, you won't see that either.

--

Nintendo fans only buy first party games and sometimes exclusives, so third party developers should drop them.  It's a waste to support a fanbase that only cares about the latest rehash of Mario, Zelda, etc.

There is a reason a large group of people only buy Nintendo products, and no it's not because they've brainwashed them with mind control waves over the TV or something, but rather.. because the Nintendo games are just THAT much better.. Most third party stuff, at least these days, is garbage. Once you strip away the smoke and mirrors of the graphics and epic cutscenes and dialouge, the core gameplay usually is either poorly made, overly simplistic, or too linear.

It didn't help that this was the worst COD ever, but .3% of total sales is a joke.

sales prove otherwise, Goldeneye did well, thats one game out of many now how well did FPSs do on other systems keep in mind they both had much smaller install bases. You're grasping at straws, i tell you that most COD players dont even purchase DLC, now youre saying that its not about the actual DLC but what it represents? If thats the case then Acti might as well not even put the game on the system with that attitude.  Remember this is a buisness.

How do you know it will be unoptimised? they havent even shown it yet, its like your making excuses before it even drops

Question, did ZombiU not sell near half a million units?

And it failed to make a profit, leading Ubisoft to scrap the sequel.
