You did notice the word "milestone" in their press release, right? Btw, didn´t they have Asia left to release in this december so by your logic, another number would be released when that launch had passed? I have no idea what date that is, and I don´t seem to find it online.

No, I have the feeling the launches, either have died of quite a bit for both Sony and MS, and that is why we are not seeing numbers or, they are playing the waiting game, just looking for when their competitor releases its figures.

Yeap... they released in Asia and Mid-East in 12nd Dec and 17th Dec but the tracking services there are not like EU and US tracking services... you will need to wait a bit more.

PS4 increased near the Christmas.

So you think Sony calls the resellers to check how many units they have sold? :)

Ofcourse they don´t, they go by shipped=sell-through at launch since that gives a pretty accurate account for the numbers of consoles sold. Otherwise they would never been able to know that they sold 1 million units in the first 24h on market in NA.

When counting, based on what we so far know, this is what has happened according to Sony and VGChartz:

2013-11-17: Announcement of 1000000 sold in 24 hours.

2013-12-03: Announcement of 2100000 sold in NA+SA+EU

2013-12-07: Accordning to VGC 2379000 sold

This averages on almost 69000 consoles/day between the first two announcements and almost 70000 consoles/day between the 3/12 and 7/12. According to those numbers, PS4 would actually have INCREASED slightly in daily sales after its two biggest launches.

Something doesn´t add up and I do not care if it´s with MS or Sony, they have become too quiet all of a sudden.

They do like they explained before the 2.1m numbers.

LE FIGARO - Will you announce the two million mark for PS4s sold worldwide by Saturday?

Andrew HOUSE - I'm crossing my fingers. But we'll need more than 24 hours to calculate the European sales. It's more complicated to measure European sales. It was simpler to measure the North American sales because we only had to count the retail sales from two countries - United States and Canada.

http://www.lefigaro.fr/jeux-video/2013/11/30/03019-20131130ARTFIG00261-nous-vendrons-5millions-de-playstation-4-d-ici-a-mars-2014.php

You are just confusing the things because the figures are launch numbers for US and after EU (WW)... they did that for US in less than 48 hours because they could check the tracking services there for the first 24 hours but to Europe they need a lot more time because there are a lot of more countries and tracking services.

So yeap... they check resellers and tracking services.

MS not (that's why the Sony numbers are more reliable than MS... MS give you the 24 hours sales 8 hours before the 24 hours ended).

MS only "shows off" when Sony makes some kind of announcement.

You must have slept through last gen then.

Indeed. The war for 2nd and 3rd place was never so fierceful.

read ethomazs post for proof sony announced launch sales. read "are you doubting ms' 2mil figure" thread for evidence that ms bullshit their figures. its pretty obvious MS needs to keep an image that they are keeping up with competition.

I had high expectations that you come up with some random BS like ebay or Amazon, but using "ethomaz post" as a source is too much to handle.

Thanks for the laugh. I will contact you if I need another one. Maybe you can use Pezus next time!

We have VGChartz numbers to prove MS is keeping up with competition.

And, if we were to follow ethomaz numbers PS4 is like 100millon undetracked, as Sony is the most perfect tech companie in the world, and every single human being on earth wanna buya a P4 (also, a perfect product)

Typically the console manufacturers wait until 1st week of January to announce any results. With launches it is also significant events. Both Sony and MS announced initially 1 million number after 24 hours. Sony then announced 2 million after the European launch and MS announced the 2 million number. See Sony had 2 launches to announce results for MS had 1 launch and then a significant milestone. With so much of the markets closed this week it is pretty pointless to release results until after the 1st of the year.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Sony already passed 3 million sales but they won't give numbers right now... wait financial results.

I don´t believe that for a second unless they announce it shortly. They announced the millionmark and when they passed 2 million, it would only benefit them to also announce reaching 3 million. The financials aren´t far off but considering their need for publicity, they would announce it.

The 2.1 million announcement was made only for their European launch and to counter the remarks from Microsoft on their launch the week prior.

To simply say 3 million with no financials, no new launches, and without the year even ending wouldn't make any sense. The first opportunity for a new announcement should be in the first week of January with "We sold ___ PS4/Ones in 2013!". You can expect another announcement after Japnanese launch, and then anouther right after March ends for financials.

Well, we know PS4 has passed 2.1 million units sold and X1 has passed 2.0 million sold. These are apparently sell-throughs too customers. All well and good.

But we haven´t heard one thing since! I would expect some announcment that PS4 has reached 3 million or X1 2.5 million but not one word at this crucial time in the holidays.

WiiU is making good strides in Japan, which is awesome news (I sure hope it can go against my own words and become a great seeling system, only time will tell) but I want to hear more about the other two 8th gen consoles.

How big do you think the sales are? Are you worried that this 8th generation is extremely front-loaded and that sales will drop of quite heavily after the holidays?

The end of fourth quarter in the new year they will announce their results. Pachter is expecting them both to sell 8 million, I believe.
