ethomaz... who is quoting a sony rep... yeah, i think that source is good enough. as for doubting ms 2mil the source is every tracking source we have info for. so yeah.. your ignorance is showing

You are just confusing the things because the figures are launch numbers for US and after EU (WW)... they did that for US in less than 48 hours because they could check the tracking services there for the first 24 hours but to Europe they need a lot more time because there are a lot of more countries and tracking services.

So yeap... they check resellers and tracking services.

MS not (that's why the Sony numbers are more reliable than MS... MS give you the 24 hours sales 8 hours before the 24 hours ended).

I dont think Sony checks "resellers and tracking services" and go counting how many units passed through the check out counters and stuff.

Since PS4s are selling like hot cakes or sold like hotcakes, it is most likely that Sony tracked sales through re-order requests from retailers and distributors.

To simplify

retailer/distributor: Yo sony, I needz mooaar ps4s!!!

sony: OK.. we sent you 10 da oder day. hows many you needz?!

retailer/distributor: I sold em all in a half hour! gimi 30 units!!!

sony:...ahhh... so thats 10 sales confirmed... but i can only deliver 5 units...

retailer/distributor: watdafak!?!!

Well there's a good chance they haven't passed the 3 million mark yet.

There's also a good chance that Sony/MS don't plan to announce every single million units they sell through.

The importance of the 2 million mark (for both) is that it covers the launched for both Europe and US. Its a good indication of how well the consoles launched. Unless these consoles sell absolutely crazy, we will probably only get numbers officially released when the financials come.
