Forums - Nintendo - Wii U has more doom threads..

I think it's a combination of people genuinely analysing poor sales, Nintendo fans playing the victim card and blowing things way out of proportion, and...Toastboy.

I would add to that list people not-so-subtly celebrating poor sales, which I think is what causes most of the frustration. The text is "Wii U is failing." The subtext is "It deserves to."

Lost some share? They went from the undisputable console leader to almost irrelevant. Those 2 gens where DOOM gens for Nintendo in the console business.

OT: Sales are decent now, that the Christmas season is here, but wait for the January collapse. It will happen

Great that you can enjoy this situation so much.

1984 NES: Nintendo won't have a chance in the videogaming market. Videogames are DEAD.
1990: Sega Genesis will crush the Snes. They're out of the market.
1996: N64 + cartridges. DOOOM
2001: Gamecube has no DVD or CD support. DOOOM
2006: Remote control is just a gimmick. DOOOOOOM.
2012: Wii U is struggling -> Nintendo goes 3rd party (...yeah right)

these were both kinda true tho, altho a lot of what hurt the N64 and the GC was both what Nintendo tried to make them appear to be and what Sony was branding the Playstation as

Of course you're right that they lost some shares with GC and N64, but I just wanted to emphasize the whole "dooom" and "they're going bankrupt" stuff :)

Yup, they used to be undisputable console leader. Compare the NES (~60 million sold) to SNES (~50 million sold)  and N64 (~33 mil.) To me this doesn't look soo bad on Nintendo consoles level of sales. But compared to the ps1 and 2 those numbers are a joke. I think Nintendo only used to be relevant on the console market in the 80s and 90s and only to the younger generation (adults back then hat no interest in games). The Wii was a surprise hit and now they are continuing their usual way.

Im not enjoying it. Dont take it personal. Its simply the reality.

In my defense, I absolutly love my Vita, yet it sales are absymal. Same with the WiiU. Millions are enjoying it, but it will still fail to become mainstream

oO, that's a silly thing to say. The doom threads are non-stop, and yes: Toastboy.

@OP. I agree. Nintendoomination can only mean that Nintendo is ahead this generation in sheer volume of doom threads and is set to win the console race in doom threads this gen. Great analysis but may I suggest graphs in OP to make it more readable?

They are? Remove toastboy's threads and I haven't seen any on the front page in weeks. Certainly no more doom threads than a certain other console received last year. Snide comments in other threads seem to be at a minimum too. Feel free to PM me anything that seems excessive.

I was also referring to a lot of defensive comments about people apparently claiming that Nintendo as a whole is doomed, something I've never heard anybody say.

True actually, these posts are very annoying. The only time poor sales should be celebrated is when Call of Duty eventually bombs.

Some people at still sour at the Wii butt rape, that's why.

I'm sorry, but what in the literal fuck are even talking about?

System sales were what they were, but:

N64 had some of THE most must-have games of it's generation. Games like Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Banjo-Kazooie, Star Fox 64, Ocarina of Time, Goldeneye, Turok/2, Perfect Dark, etc. were games that Playstation and Saturn simply couldn't do. Until the Dreamcast came out in 1999, N64 was also the only place you could get 4-player multiplayer out of the box. It was pretty much THE console to own for platformers, sports game, FPS games, and even racers to some extent (because of 4-player). If you were around during that generation, then you'd remember that Ninendo and the N64 were perfectly relevant then, with even many of the most hardcore Playstation fans wishing their system had games like Goldeneye, and Diddy Kong Racing and Perfect Dark and Zelda.

As for the Gamecube, it certainly took it's beating, but the Xbox barely beat it in sales, also "struggling" against the PS2 (which sold largely on the back of being a DVD player, as well as the GTA games). But it too still had some of the most "must have" games of it's gen, such as Metroid Prime, such as Eternal Darkness, such as Pikmin, such as RE4 (before Capcom went and ported it later), and such as Smash Bros. Melee. It's a moot point now, but if Sega had been smart, they would have put all their eggs in the GC basket, and put many of their games that flopped on the other consoles, such as the new Shinobi, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Toejam and Earl 3, etc., and put them on GC exclusively, they likely would have done better, as it seemed like a lot of former Sega owners jumped to GC that gen.

And beyond that, the Game Boy brand and later DS, made very certain that they never became "irrelevant". Nintendo will never be "irrelevant", for the very reason that they will always provide Nintendo quality experiences, and unique Nintendo style games that only they seem to provide these days.

Please keep your calm and double check what you write.

Having one of the best rated games ever created means jack, when your brand new rival beats you 3:1 in sales.

Also, dont act like the success of the PS2 was only because of GTA and DVD capacity. Hipocryte much? It wont because it had by far the superior library and mass appeal.

Also, I mentioned "home consoles" and never even aluded to handheld sales. So after double checking your own language also learn to read what people actually post and then comment.

Thx in advance
