Forums - Gaming - Digital Foundry vs. AC4 PS3/360/WiiU/PS4/XB1/PC

Another lazy, incompetent Wii U port from Ubisoft, as I predicted.

AC4 is no longer  on my "to buy" list.

Wii U beaten by 360 and PS3.

Yes Wii U has some amazing games, but now can we please stop saying it's good hardware? It's not a strong machine AT ALL. Proven multiples times over by losing to 8 year old machines.

Wii U is more powerful than PS360. Fact. Only in Wonderland is weaker. Ubisoft (and others) just don't want to spend money on it.

How is that a fact, when specs and multiplatform comparisons say differently, don't get me wrong i think my wiiu is slightly more capable cause of the extra ram, but when i see almost all third party games running inferior and many by a huge margin, i can accept reality and see the hardware is not a step up.

Multiplats are only inferior because the devs have 8-9 years experience with PS3/360 hardware and invest considerable money and effort into those platforms, while they only have two years experience with Wii U and make the bare minimum of effort because they don't expect it to sell.

Need for Speed Most Wanted U and Trine 2 Director's Cut show what happens when a competent dev actually tries to make a quality Wii U port. Both were superior to the PS3/360 versions in a numbers of ways.

The hardware is a step up. More than twice as much RAM available for games, more than three times as much eDRAM as 360, DX10/11 equivalent GPGPU.

Better CPUGPU, better RAM and I'll say again:

Third Parties just don't want to spend more resources on Wii U. AC III sold 300k on Wii U and over 3mil on PS360. Why Ubisoft will spend their time and money just to sell another (with lucky) 300k?

Which in return means it won't sell, which in return means they'll invest even less in the next one (if they even put it on the WiiU at all).

2 games that benefited from extra dev time because they came out later , and 2 games, that had very slight advantages, while most wiiu ports are 6-10 fps behind current gen versins rendering them almost unplayable imo, just look at ps4 vs xbone, ps4  is only 40% more powerful yet every game has an advanatge, and some which are huge, if we go be the insider specs, wiiu has less shaders, a weaker cpu, and can't do hd installs, which all show in mulitplatform games.

I don't get it anymore.

I don't get Digital Foundry anymore. My eyes are my eyes, and they see that the WiiU version obviously beats the PS360 version in IGN's video. This also isn't the first comparison where my eyes see something different than what DF says. The PS4 version clearly wins overall (consoles) though. You know what, I don't even care anyway.

Then I won't buy the next one either. It's their job to provide me with quality products if they want my money.

LOL mabye you should ask nintendo for better hardware then, it's just not them, it's amost every developer. you think they really put effort in the xbone/ps4 versions, so consoles are 7x-10x more powerful then current gen, and i'm only seeing a 4x differnce only on ps4, and maybe 2x differnce on xbone.

another case where the PS4 version of a game runs and looks better on the PS4, now who would have guessed that was going to happen?

If I'm not mistaken the PS4 version would run pretty badly on any other platform; it might not even work at all.

Hello Ninjablade. :)

"Insider info" from neogaf is not a legitimate source; it's unreliable speculation by a bunch of anonymous nobodies.

Trine 2 and Need for Speed's "extra dev time" was simply because it took time to port to a different architecture. Both devs stated that the Wii U's greater capabilities allowed for the improvements they made. Frozenbyte even said the Wii U version of Trine 2 could not be done on PS3/360.

Trine 2 on Wii U is superior in terms of:

- Screen resolution

- Texture Resolution

- Anti-aliasing

- Water effects

- Physics

- Normal map compression

Need for Speed wins in terms of:

- Texture resolution

- Reflections

- Framerate

Other ports lag behind because they are lazy rushjobs.

Wii U version's framerate improved noticeably in the last patch. It still drops when there's massive numbers of people/ships on the screen but it's very playable most of the time now.
