Forums - Gaming - Is Nintendo really irelevant?

It's simply more anti Nintendo propaganda in the industry. Pay it no mind. It has been happening since the NES was launched in America in the mid 80s.. And it'll probably keep on happening for the forseeable future. It is as certain as death and taxes..

Its not propaganda. Nintendo is closing off itself to the industry and when the industry moves on without them they call them irrelevant. Why? Because essentially thats what they are making themselves seem like to certain types of gamers.

if Nintendo were irrelevant why would ubisoft be copying their idea of the 30 old game excitebike. Its the most relevant company on the market, because they understand gameplay.

Most work just with graphical bluffs without soul. Even the  Demons Souls borrowed a lot from Zelda ocarina of time.

But it seems jason rubin seems irelevant because he needs to bash Nintendo to gain publicity.

No one really knows yet where the industry is going.  When 360/PS3 launched the biggest title that sucked people in was Guitar Hero.  Now its Call of Duty. In 6 -7 years it will probebly be something totally different.   Battlefield 4 (3.5 million combined) is selling horribly compared to Battlefield 3 (13.5 million combined), which is why gamestop was trying to give them away for 25 bucks on Black Friday.  COD has already peaked as well...MW3 (26.5 m.), BO2 (23.1 m.), Ghosts (10 m.).   I will give PS4 and Xbone their great launches but if they keep relying on FPS's then their sales are going to bomb eventually.     Gears of War is already dead. Killzone 3 only sold 2.5 million.   I can go on and on, but the era of the FPS is coming to a close sooner rather than later.  Nintendo just needs to keep doing what they do.

Isnt it obvious, it dosent get any more irrelevant than this =P

I noticed this yesterday and it amused me.  I know it's just a snapshot and not necessarily indicative of the bigger picture, nonetheless I found it amusing in the context of discussing Nintendo's supposed irrelevance.

Nintendo is NOT closing itself off to the industry. It is the industry that is freezing out Nintendo.

Nintendo contacted devs in 2011-2012 to make games for them. Short notice much? Devs had already said by the end of 2011 what specs it would take to create next gen games. There is no excuse.

EA, 2K, Bethesda, and Rocksteady dont have anything to do with the Wii U at the moment. I think EA's relationship with Nintendo is over but don't be shocked if you see the other 3 companies put games on Wii U eventually. All this 3rd party talk has actually made me realize that no one really wants the PS4 or Xbone for the games that Sony and Microsoft make. If it works for them, then power to them, but it just seems like a weird business model to me.

Hahaha great post

The whole 'irrelevant' angle almost seems like sour grapes from the gaming press to me. Nintendo tend to flat out ignore the gaming media (except for Reggie, who loves it). They don't sponsor websites, or spend millions on advertising, or pay for good reviews.

The gaming media is like those vines that grow around other trees in the Amazon, helping to support them, but ultimately unable to exist on their own. And Nintendo is a tree that can stand on it's own and somehow rejects the parasite. And because the Nintendo tree doesn't need the parasite vine, the parasite vine tries to poison it, so that their host trees can steal Nintendo's dirt.

That metaphor got away from me.

Nintendo being irrelevant = sour grapes from shitty developer and bad businessman

Nintendo will always be able to make money selling Mario Kart, Zelda, Smash Bros etc. Whether or not they are a big player, or if they'll be doomed to being the 2nd console brought out 3/4 times a year to play the exclusives.

EA's relationship with Nintendo is not over. I am guessing they had a dispute. EA was ready to support them during E3 but they had a falling out afterwards. I dont know what Nintendo expects from EA because Microsoft and Sony don't seem to have a problem.
