Forums - Nintendo - Super mario 3D world is only around 8 hours long?

Does anyone else remember paying £40-50 for games that were less than 2 hours long? Aaaaah gotta miss the 8 and 16bit eras :p

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Change the title. It was already said that he rsuhed it and that it will have more in store for us after playing through it like 3D Land.

There is no such thing as *rushing* through a mario game. Therefore, the title shall stay the same.

WTF? Doing the minimum of levels to get to the end, skipping collectables, warp zones, no exploring on the world map, doing only the easy levels. Flying over levels. There are tons of ways to rush a Mario game. Give me a break.

To be fair. They often had more replay value cause it was all about gameplay back then, also a lot of us were kids in the 8 - 16 bit era and couldn't afford games every month, games lasted months and years back then WITH singleplayer only. Also they were a lot harder.

2 times longer than your average generic dudebro shooter.

Pretty sure you can spend hours upon hours playing a "dudebro" shooters multiplayer.

Good thing 3D World has multiplayer then :P

Link me to where the guy said he skipped levels and only did the easy levels and I will change the title but from what I read, he never said so and he was implying that he didn't do any of the extras. And skipping the extras is not rushing through the game.

I see that this thread delivered. Juist like six years ago, we got the same inane arguments that achievements and (pointless) collectibles are equal to additional levels.

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=9571&page=1

What's baffling is that by now everyone should know that there is plenty of optional meaningful content in 3D Mario games, so the above arguments shouldn't even be put forward in the first place. You only had to collect 70/120 stars to finish Super Mario 64, 50/120 shine sprites to finish Super Mario Sunshine, 60/120 stars to finish Super Mario Galaxy, 70/120 stars to finish Super Mario Galaxy 2, and Super Mario 3D Land also offered its fair share of content after beating its world 8, plus skippable levels on the way to the end. So what reason is there that Super Mario 3D World wouldn't be the same? None, nevermind that it has already been confirmed that SM3DW is no different.

Yet here we are again and have to hear about how treasures in the linear Uncharted games are comparable to 3D Mario games where players can skip entire levels and even worlds. Or how achievements which urge you to play exactly the same content again are equal to content you have not played before. Since this is so ridiculous, the guys who put these arguments forward can now pick from three options for what they are:

1) Ignorant. You are clueless gamers that aren't even familiar with games that have sold in excess of 5m copies everytime. You are casual.

2) Idiots. You just don't know any better.

3) Trolls. You know what you are doing.

Yes, none of those three options are anything to be proud of, but that's what you get when you say something as intelligent as "If dogs really have brains, then why can't they talk?"

Great reply, couldn't really have said it better myself. Seems like some people don't quite understand the concept behind a Mario game, or indeed how reviewers tend to blitz through games (made evident when they said that Xenoblade clocked in at 25 hours).

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Very difficult to play Xenoblade. They printed like 8 copies of that game, worldwide. -__-

Multiply 8 by 100,000 and you would be much closer.

You really didn't get the point. -__-

I get it. But I also don't feel sorry for anyone who expected to buy the game "when the price goes down".

Of course. The only reason why people wouldn't get the game when it just came out is because they expected to get it "when the price goes down". ¬_¬

Just stop. The game was released with really limited quantity. Everybody knows that. That you try to argue this is beyond reasoning.

You're putting words into my mouth. I'm saying that it was clearly going to be a limited release ever since it was announced as a GameStop retail exclusive, so I don't feel sympathy for anyone who wanted the game and could've bought it when it was available, but didn't (and would now complain about the high price). If someone wanted it and couldn't purchase it around that time, then that's a shame (and thereore must now pay a hefty price). A shame that should be put sqaurely on the shoulders of NOA, who did a good job of seeming as if they didn't want Xenoblade to succeed.

Now, let's get on topic, shall we? I don't think Xenoblade's rarity is relevant to the overall discussion, or even the point tbone was making to begin with. :/ MikeRox could've taken 30 seconds of research and found out on his own.

Why would someone rush through a Mario game... -__-

The point of these games is to uncover every secrets, starts, secret levels, etc... That's where the length and challenges reside.

It's not like most games where you rush to see the story.

cause some people dont care about getting 100% completion

you have to make a point for me to avoid it.

That point was that you came in here just to argue for the sake of arguing. You have proven me right time and time again already.

so you have no point, thought so. For future reference if you are going to add your two cents between two people have something to say. it saves time later
