Doesn't make a big difference to me. I don't have a big TV, (though I don't sit too far away), so I can't see too much difference between the resolutions.

How important is resolution? (TV, ranging from 720 to 1080) | |||
| Essential. 1080p vs 720p is huge. | 172 | 42.68% | |
| Important. Resolution over effects. | 44 | 10.92% | |
| It's a minor plus, I rat... | 128 | 31.76% | |
| Non-issue, I don't see a difference. | 58 | 14.39% | |
| Total: | 402 | ||

I spent most of my 7th gen gaming time on the 480p Wii, there's your answer.
I always laugh when people mention image size and resolution and stuff.
I can always tell the difference. Every time. 1080p is just more detailed and sharper. More things are on the screen at any given time. Less jaggies. Its just superior.
Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!
Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st ![]()
The difference is big, anyone saying otherwise is in denial..
After saying that it's not crucial, but sure is better and nicer to have.
The poll options make no sense.................You can have effects and 1080p...why not both?? The 2 are not mutually exclusive.
When I first saw the Xbox 360 in HD, I was blown away by how sharp the image was. It was a thing of beauty. I think the first game I saw was Gears of War 1. I did some some games that looked blurry despite being in HD like Bulletwitch so I knew there something different about it. Examples like that were extremely rare, though. Truth is, if websites and magazines didn't tell me I was looking at 1080p or 60fps, I would never have known or cared. Because I'm told that I'm looking at the emperor's new clothes, I believe he's not naked. I got PS3 games like Wipeout HD Fury or Wind Waker for the Wii U and I was expecting to be blown away but I wasn't. Not even a little bit.
If this or any other site didn't say "1080p!" or "60FPS!" nothing but the most hardcore of us would ever notice or care. As long as a game doesn't run like Perfect Dark on N64, a smooth framerate and a sharp picture would have been more than enough. Most of our graphics kings from the 7th gen weren't anywhere near native 720p and we didn't care at all. Now we are struggling to justify how much better our 8th gen consoles are and focusing so much on this one feature. And the thing is, many of us have NEVER played a game in that resolution or have TVs too small to make a difference and we're hyping it up.
You know who you are.
It´s good to have a better resolution but for me, as a gamer, it´s not important.
What really matters in a good videogame is, in order: gameplay, art design, soundtrack and sound effects, plot and, lastly, graphic resolution

Based on COD: Ghosts and BF4, resolution wouldn't matter to me. Because unless you're gaming on a gigantic screen, the difference is negligible. However, what I am concerned over is that this could be a litmus test for the XBone's performance down the road. If the PS4 continually outperforms the XBone, gamewise, that will raise issues for the gaming community. Because the performance gaps could become greater. When the PS3 was "hard to develop for", with each subsequent multiplatform release, the performance of the PS3 versions of games got better and better until they hit parity or above the 360 version.
Now we have a situation of a console that's "easier to develop for" that has objectively "more powerful" hardware (as opposed to the PS3 being more powerful than the 360 but harder to develop for) than the competition and we have two examples of the PS4 version of a game significantly outperforming the XBone version (although looking at a TV screen within 6-9 ft won't give you much of a difference visually from your own perspective, the fact remains that under the hood, running 1080p natively is more intense on a system than 720p natively).
So sure, right now, resolution isn't the end all, be all. But it has implications considering what we know about the PS4 and XBone's architecture.

After seeing the difference between 720p and 1080p on a monitor, I can't wait to see that jump on console games next-gen.
It's not crucial, but it's very nice. Almost any game can look stunning at 1080p / 60fps.

I can instantly tell any game running at 30fps rather than 60fps just from looking at it. I don't think I could tell you whether a game was natively 1080p or upscaled from a lower resolution to 1080p though.
Dreamcast actually introduced me to 60fps, I couldn't put my finger on why F355 Challenge looked so much smoother and sharper than Metropolis Street Racer. Was purely because it was 60fps. That was the point where I realised 60fps was more important than fancy effects and higher resolutions for me. It actually affects how a game plays and how responsive it feels, whereas resolution doesn't make a blind bit of difference to that.
This is why I find it so funny that Wii had more high profile 60fps this last gen than PS3 and 360 did.
Well my tv only goes up to 1080i. So not really. Question, does 60hz do 60fps?
