I have three HDTV's. One is a32 inch LCD that only does 720p or 1080i, one is a 42 inch 120 Hz 1080p LCD, and the other is a 42 inch 1080p 240 Hz LED 3D HDTV.
All of this 1080p talk is wasted on me.
How important is resolution? (TV, ranging from 720 to 1080) | |||
| Essential. 1080p vs 720p is huge. | 172 | 42.68% | |
| Important. Resolution over effects. | 44 | 10.92% | |
| It's a minor plus, I rat... | 128 | 31.76% | |
| Non-issue, I don't see a difference. | 58 | 14.39% | |
| Total: | 402 | ||

No way, it's awesome. ;)
No troll is too much for me to handle. I rehabilitate trolls, I train people. I am the Troll Whisperer.
All this resolution war doesn't interest me. After all, this last gen I've played with my Wii on a 1080p TV and it didn't cared for it most of the time.
What interests me/bothers me is why this difference is happening. Is it truly because the power difference between both consoles or just because PS4 is easier to develop while devs are having a rougher start with the X1, like they had with PS3? Time will tell.
Please excuse my bad English.

60 inch, 2.2 meters away. It makes a big difference in my case. I'd take 1080P over 60fps.
Not very ... still yet to see a game in 1080p to wow me. 720 has done a great job so far. I will welcome the pervasiveness of 1080p (at least I assume that would be the case) next gen, but at this point it's not a deal breaker.
I'm more concerned about frames ...
Oh and I have a Samsung and Bravia. The former is 40+ and the latter is 32 - both of which are 1080p capable.
Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS
I'm not sure. I mostly just like to see something pretty and immersive. I have a 50" TV, and I do have to say that when I put in WWHD I actually did notice the resolution. The mix of crisp, simple images, high resolution and next-gen lighting was awesome. It really felt "next gen" even though it's an old game in HD. I would say 1080p is a small but relevant factor for me.

Very important, resolution over effects any day. (Especially motion blur and fake dof, just more ways to blur the image) I rather have 1080p with no AA then a soft upscaled 720p image. But I guess I'm sitting too close, 11ft from 92" 1080p projector. GT5 is awesome though on that screen, can't wait for GT6!

I don't like these blurring effects in most cases.
That's another advantage of PC games: in most titles, you can choose the effects and their intensity/complexity.
You can choose for every title, if max. resolution/AA is more important to you or higher framerates or the crispiest textures or...
In console games you get fixed settings, selected by the devs... so it's a "my way or the highway"-attitude.
I've been gaming since I was a little tyke and my father brought home an Atari 2600, mostly for my older sisters. I took it over almost immediately and never looked back.
When people complain about modern gaming controllers and how they "can't play on the other system because it's uncomfortable," I just laugh. I played Defender on the Atari until my left hand was a claw, Double Dragon on the NES torture device until my thumbs throbbed. Staple some buttons on a rabid weasel and I'll play it.
Resolution? Totally fine with me if it gets better but it's also not something I worry about. It's one of the least essential parts of a game. I'll take Fallout 3, which looked like last gen, over any of the big budget military shooters any day of the week. I simply care about other factors far more. If a game is good, I'll play it and be happy.
I play on a 720 television. If "graphics" never got beyond KZ3 or Halo 4, next gen or not, I would be totally cool with it. I want next gen for other, game-play related reasons.
