Before the announcement of the price cut the 3DS had 32k in sales. People would be able to predict 200k off of that alone. PsV before new modle was announced 7k... seriously... 60k is a greater increase than 32 to 200k but whatever. Think you are oh so informed lol |
7K+1600%=199K (looking at the two bolded sentences in both your posts).
Only to point out your spin.

In the sum those sales match my prediction for a 45k week from a month ago, because I didn't expect the Vita to go from about 10k a week to about 5k a week. In the end, why would it matter though? The decisions for third party support have already been made quite a long time ago, so this boost doesn't change anything one way or the other. It was already clear before the price cut in March that third parties would keep making games for the system despite an awful first year. Speaking of low sales, the Wii U matches the pace of the Vita in a launch-aligned comparison. However, that doesn't matter either, because the decisions for third party support have already been made. The Wii U can keep posting sub-5k weeks, it's not going to hurt the system (there was nothing to lose already). It works the same way in the other direction: Even if the Wii U somehow rebounded to a baseline of 20-30k weekly, that wouldn't garner any meaningful third party support. Speaking of third party support, the 3DS has been the dominant platform in Japan for two years now. If a Nintendo handheld with such a commanding lead is unable to attract a clear majority of third party support, then what hope is there for a struggling Nintendo home console to gain anything at all? Absolutely none. Hence why there is no pressure on Wii U performance, other than Nintendo's bottom line. That makes it a purely business-oriented matter, because from a gamer's perspective it's pretty much irrelevant. Oh, and Pokémon sold 2m units. That's okay for a start. |
Does that mean nintendo should be preparing a new console for 2015 ?

That´s weird. 3DS has been getting a lot, I mean, A LOT of third party games in Japan. Capcom, Namco, Level-5, Sega, Square Enix, Atlus, Konami, Atlus, Tecmo etc etc have been making games for it - although many of those games will never see the light of the day on the West
It seems that a few western developers are not interested in it, like Ubisoft or EA, but they´re not interested in handheld games at all, since we don´t see much from them for Vita, also.
Interesting looking at the Dengeki Top50 software none of the 10 new PSV rereleases (like Soul Sacrifice) charted. It´s really notable that none of those games managed to sell 1.000 units last week looking at very decent 60k hardware sold last week.
It seems quite a lot of people just replaced their old PSV1000 and the number of new aufience wasn´t that big.

7k was when the slim was annpunced.. the week before release was barely above 3.5k... So that's why the 1600~1800% performance we're talking about...

I suspect there are quite a lot of people upgrading (and a few people importing from other countries, among other things).
But still. None of the "PlayStation the best" range has charted upon release yet. The games just aren't big enough. That and the fact that it's still probably cheaper to pick up a used copy rather than a new copy with a horrible yellow border round the box.

Again, I'll say that I didn't realize how much of an effect the announcement had on the 3DS. 32 -> 16 -> damn right pathetic numbers. Which, is why the % is so great for 3DS. Before the PSV announcement happened though it was at 7k. If it followed the pattern of the 3DS announcement it would have been in the 100's range barely breaking 900 if that. No spin, just straight up common sense

In my opinion last week was some kind of an attempted relaunch for the PSV. A revision in 6 different colors, new ad campaign and alongside new releases also budget titles of some of the best selling PSV titles like Soul Sacrifice. That none of them broke 1.000 units suggests that there were some rebuyers and who knows how many were imported since it´s a worldwide Japanese exclusive revision so far.
Just to put things in perspective even a launch title like NSMBU charted this week in the Dengeki Top50.
