No reason to look down on a good fighting game. They add tons of value, especially if you can get it for as little as $5 to start out. If you don't like it, don't buy more. If you do, buy the $40 package and get the whole thing(including the original).

Here's the thing though. The free version has one character. ONE CHARACTER. Every other character is $5 a pop. As far as I know, and please feel free to correct me, there isn't a way to try any new characters, a la League of legends weekly rotation of characters or something similar. I could buy a character that looks good, hate him and piss away $5. Rinse and repeat.

Now, you can avoid this by buying the bundle which comes with *drum roll* ...8 characters. And 2 of them are to be added later. That is a horrendous amount of fighters when other game like smash bros, tekken and Mortal kombat have 30+ to start off. Some people argue "well this system is perfect for those who are knew to fighting and can find large rosters overwhelming or who don't want to spend $60 on a game." Well, even if the amount of fighters is overwhelming, after purchasing the game, you lose nothing by simply trying different characters at your own pace. As for the $60, rent the game. Try out the campaign, time trial, survival, practice mode, etc. Want the competitive feel of it? Try online if it isn't blocked by an Online Pass or invite a few friends over to try it out.

When you say "the whole thing", in a genre of gaming where character variety is key, 8 characters is just too low. I still love the feel and look of the game. If i ever purchase an xbox one AND a retail version of the game came out, with all characters comes out, i would be all over it. Until then, I am very skeptical of how it will perform.

I agree with everything you said.  I think they are attempting to try a new pricing model to allow more options for people.  Sure, the game probably should have come out 6 months later with 12+ characters to begin with.  I think that with the rush to add it to the launch and the fairly low price to get into it to see if you even like the "feel" of the game, it is pretty good to start.  Like you said, if you way til next fall, they will have a full version of the game that will probably have 20+ characters and all of the "beta" parts of this worked out.  Probably a much better buy then.

Pretty much. The game, on a technical level, looks and plays phenomenal. It has its own thing going on which I think will set it apart from other fighters next gen. However, I don't like a game being rush or half-assed just to meet a deadline and that's the impression that KI gives me. The Xbox one launch is still pretty good even if they delayed KI to bring out more characers, modes, stages, etc. Most gamers don't like delays but they are necessary sometimes to produce a better game.

By "blow up" i'm guessing he means the competitive scene.

The problem with that is that... I think most of the competitive e sports fighting fans are on the Playstation due to the better D-pad. (Not all pro's tend to get official/prosticks.)

This might cause them to pick up an Xbox One if it ends up  being any good.

I mean it could be... I'm just talking anectdotally, but the fighter obssessed people i knew were in love with the original Xbox, moved to PS3 and now pretty much are as big a "faboys" as you can get.  Taunting the hell out of the various Xbox One news.

I use to go to a lot of Fighting game tournaments and the reason why most are on the PS3 is not because of the Dpad.  No real competitive gamer uses a Dpad instead they will use a custom joystick made somewhere outside of the US or they will pick up one of the already built high end sticks made with arcade parts.

Fighting game players go to the system that has the bigger gaming base and that is the PS3.  The PS community is larger on the PS3 than the Xbox and this is the reason why most game on the PS3.

Some people do and some don't but that doesn't mean it shouldn't offer more content for it's price. ;)

$20 for 8 characters when I can purchase a DLC that will give me more content so the choice is yours.

Not for people who want to play Killer Instinct it isn't. It's much cheaper than paying for a Campaign mode you will never play. I think the pricing model is much better than paying for DLC personally. I get a new fighting game in a franchise I love and can compete online, that's all I want. That's if I had the money to get an X1, but that's another story.

Um....no. The reason fighting fans are on Playsation is because the Playstation was the console which caused the transition from arcade gaming to console gaming for fighting enthusiasts. The directional pad was a small part of the picture inspired by the SNES D-Pad, but a part of it none the less when the Xbox and Gamecube generation came into the equation. It wasn't a big deal when consumers placed their bets on their favorite consoles.  All the major fighting games could be handled on consoles at that point. Battle Arena Toshinden, Tekken, Soul Blade, Bloody Roar, you name it the Playstation had it. There was no need to go to an arcade. You even had fighters like Bushido Blade which never made it to the arcade (LOL Everyone would die and lose their quarters).

@Bolded: Did you just say the same thing.  The community is bigger on the PS system than on the 360 which is what I said.  One of the reason I bought a PS3 at launch was for Tekken Tag.

What do they mean by "Blow-up" ? If anything it'll be even lucky to achieve a fraction of what smash bros will sell because this game appears to have a poor amount of content for the price.

Thank you for continuing to downplay anything MS.  Your obsession is unmatched, just buy the system and get it over with.

20 dollars for 8 characters sounds good to me

That's without a campaign and everthing else. The only modes that you get are practice and online matches. With $20 I could spend that on a GTA DLC or some other DLC that has more to offer than what killer instinct offers.

Story mode comes out early next year with the last 2 characters.

Hey, Hey, now that makes sense. Don't make it look as he doesn't know what he's talking about.

Hey fatslob, You're not buying a Xbox One, Why even come into these threads? Just to bash the living shit out of anything MS?

So is that what is supposed to happen on this site, if you say anything, you get banned. So should all the MS fans go to Sony threads and downplay everything. I'm starting to think that this is all some sony fans come to this site for.

This is why so many MS fans leave the site. You got this non-stop but god forbid you say something. Everyone knows that most commenting or downplaying, want nothing to do with Xbox or it's products but they are allowed to bate on the theads all the time.

If KI can be the catalyst for knocking FPS off its perch more power to it. I doubt it will though. The MP in FPS seems to be far more compelling than the MP in 1 on 1 fighters.
