landguy1 said: No reason to look down on a good fighting game. They add tons of value, especially if you can get it for as little as $5 to start out. If you don't like it, don't buy more. If you do, buy the $40 package and get the whole thing(including the original). |
Here's the thing though. The free version has one character. ONE CHARACTER. Every other character is $5 a pop. As far as I know, and please feel free to correct me, there isn't a way to try any new characters, a la League of legends weekly rotation of characters or something similar. I could buy a character that looks good, hate him and piss away $5. Rinse and repeat.
Now, you can avoid this by buying the bundle which comes with *drum roll* ...8 characters. And 2 of them are to be added later. That is a horrendous amount of fighters when other game like smash bros, tekken and Mortal kombat have 30+ to start off. Some people argue "well this system is perfect for those who are knew to fighting and can find large rosters overwhelming or who don't want to spend $60 on a game." Well, even if the amount of fighters is overwhelming, after purchasing the game, you lose nothing by simply trying different characters at your own pace. As for the $60, rent the game. Try out the campaign, time trial, survival, practice mode, etc. Want the competitive feel of it? Try online if it isn't blocked by an Online Pass or invite a few friends over to try it out.
When you say "the whole thing", in a genre of gaming where character variety is key, 8 characters is just too low. I still love the feel and look of the game. If i ever purchase an xbox one AND a retail version of the game came out, with all characters comes out, i would be all over it. Until then, I am very skeptical of how it will perform.
