Forums - Gaming - Tomb Raider, Sleeping Dogs and Hitman: Absolution declared “commercial failures” by Square Enix

Way to go S-E. Only you guys can sell 4M copies and call it a failure.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Sleeping Dogs was a good game... wish it would have sold better.

We don't need Nintendo, we will release on Microsoft and Sony consoles and be fine. Lol

Yes, like many have said already, their projects have too big budgets. All the former Eidos studios are too big.

It's just unrealistic for mid-market games, most of their games are 3-4 years in development on 150 person teams.

The next commercial failure is Thief.

From everything I've read, Thief is headed for critical failure as well.

LOL everytime i read this i go like WTF?! TLoU exceeds expectations with 3.4 Million sold, key word, exceeds. and that game is behind a very popular developer. these guys sell 4 million and its a "commercial failure" wow! way to go and show faith in your developers square

Yes. I get more and more the feeling that SquareEnix completely lost the ability to develop with a realistic budget and set realistic targets.

Sadly I have got the same impression. I hardly have seen any previews at all though.

Have you followed the game a lot?

How dumb are the dudes who do market research there? How ridiculously high were their expectations? You know what? All these games sold WELL. Better than a regulary guy on the internet like me would expect.

Oh, and all these games were also great, so don't even try to blame it on the developers. They did a great job.

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

This games is below average IMO. so, good.

Nah, just read some articles and comments on Polygon.

Didn't get Hitman, but I got Tomb Raider and Sleeping Dogs.

I have to say I thought Sleeping Dogs was more fun that GTA4. With respect to Tomb Raider I can understand how that could be disappointing based on how huge Tomb Raider used to be on PS1. The issue is its too late in the console cycle for reboots and new IPs.

BTW I heard Tomb Raider already has a sequel in development.
