Forums - Gaming - Tomb Raider, Sleeping Dogs and Hitman: Absolution declared “commercial failures” by Square Enix

Square Enix has to manage their expectations if Tomb Raider can be considered a commercial failure.

Signature goes here!

It's simple, all these games have had really long and expensive developments. They can make the content in both those games cheap enough for them to make plenty of profit of those sales

It is just poor management, I hope they don't give up on making "proper games" because they can't keep their budgets under control

Where did “commercial failures” come from? I didn't see it in the article.

wow didn't both absolution and tomb raider sell something like 3 million+ and squeenix still consider them booth a financial failure? if thats the case then something really needs to be done about their budget planning.

Yes, like many have said already, their projects have too big budgets. All the former Eidos studios are too big.

It's just unrealistic for mid-market games, most of their games are 3-4 years in development on 150 person teams.

The next commercial failure is Thief.

Is Square Enix trying to find excuses to go iOS only?

Dont forget Tomb Raider was discounted in a very short time for both Retail and Digital. Most sales came from there.

The 3DS is HD now?

That is a really stupid and confusing shorthand for "consumer games".

Meh, they just want Call of Duty numbers. Which they will never get.

All of this, of course, is just my opinion.

Skyrim 100%'d. Dark Souls 100%'d.
Dark Souls > Skyrim.
Halo 4 is the best damn FPS since Halo 3.
Proud pre-orderer of 2 PS4's and an Xbox One.

Playstation 4: MGS V GZ, Killzone: Shadow Fall, NBA 2k14.

what about all the money they lose with versus 13?
