Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Major Nelson on X1 Power: "I can't wait for the truth to come out."

And the article said it was a 3 billion, multi - year deal, implying that that's not the final figure - just the initial payment.ie for the first part/years of the multi year deal.

I strongly doubt anyone is paying for 80 MILLION chips - in advance - with limited knowledge of fabrication costs in 3,6,9 years time ( where they'd be most likely to hit that 80 million figure) - but I don't doubt that the 3 billion includes at least some of the first year or two's worth of chip production.

Although essentially I agree with you. Didn't mean to sound contrary above - there's just specifics of the deal, that as you said - neither of us know!

I'll have to buy the Dean Takahashi"Birth Of Xbox One" behind the scenes journalistic essay book in 2015 to even start to find out specifics of that deal! Or start reading this MS annual profit/loss - incomings/outgoings statements closely.

No.  When a company says 3 billion in a multy year deal, it means 3 billion divided by the amount of years in the contract.  thats how every company says it, but if you really need it

http://bgr.com/2013/05/31/xbox-one-amd-deal-value/

"Former AMD executive Bob Feldstein now works at Nvidia. Feldstein played a role in the deal to deliver a custom AMD Jaguar processor to Microsoft though, and he posted several details about his work on the project to LinkedIn following his departure from AMD. In doing so, he revealed that the project is worth more than $3 billion to AMD over the lifetime of the contract."

Ha.. i won my bet, but i wasnt around to gloat because im on a better forum!  See ya guys on Viz

Ok can we put the rumour of an extra chip to bed now?

Making an indie game : Dead of Day!

Basically what he said can be summed up as "as usual a few tens percent raw HW performance difference isn't very much by itself, and we can make it look even smaller as we can write better dev tools and better optimised drivers than Sony". most probably he could have added than using wisely that small faster RAM to maximise its hit rate, also the RAM speed advantage of PS4 can be made look smaller. Fine, we can give credit to MS for the results it reached with XB360, but Nelson and Penello should also consider that PS3 was harder to program and it took Sony longer to make better dev tools, so the best games, fully tapping its power came later, but this time Sony with PS$ chose a really simple architecture, actually even smpler than XBOne, so even giving full credit to MS dev teams, their SW advantage shouldn't be as big as when 7th gen started. Anyhow, putting all the PR stuff away, we can agree that real world advantage for PS4 will be smaller than specs one. But as in 7th gen, later 1st party exclusives should be able to show a real power closer to the ideal one.

I believe people keep forgetting the 1.31 TFLOPS performance of the XBO is theoretical not actual. Meaning if the XBO can run 100% then it should be 40% less juice than the PS4. ¬_¬

Exactly so should we not see this difference on released games right.  I know people will bring up release games do not show the true power of a system but 40% is a lot. Its not like the X1 and PS4 are running custom designed chips but X86 CPU and GPUs that have been in the market for years. OpenGl API you name it.  So when as stated I see 40% performance then we can start to talk.

But, I already gave you an example of a game that is illustrating the gap.  Forza.  To get a constant 60 fps, with graphics on par with DC, it has prebaked lighting, static backgrounds, and no weather effects.  DC, which they are still optimizing to hit that 60 fps, is going to have everything being rendered in real time.  And yes, people will be able to tell the difference if they compare the two.  Here's a question, where's the games that look as good as KZ:SF and Infamous:SS, and are also open world games (KZ is a quasi-open world game), on the One?  I sure haven't seen any.

And these are just launch titles.  None are being produced by the other true gods of visuals (GG is one), ND, SM, and PD.  Wait a year or two, when Last of US 2, GOW4, or GT7 releases.  Then, you will start to see what the PS4 is truly capable of.  And that gap is truly going to start to show.  Remember, we're talking about ~500 Gflops here.  That's more than 2x what the Wii U's GPU is estimated to be able to output.  Now, imagine that extra power inside the PS4.  That's definitely going to lead to a bigger gap than what we saw with PS3/360.

Actually you gave me nothing.  Driveclue does not run 60FPS, I even quoted that DriveClub was running at gamercons at a locked 30FPS.  So your whole point is null.  When Driveclub runs at 60FPS then you can come back and use it as an example but until then, the power of the PS4 isn't shone in that game.

KZ looks good but then again it doesn't look better to me than the Division, BF4 or even watch dogs.  Infamous SS is probably the game I think looks the best coming from the PS4.  Graphically, Ryse is the better looking game coming from MS in the launch period and from a short ingame scene from Quantum Break, it looks just as good as anything comeing out as well.

As for waiting a year or 2 before we see something from ND and Sony other studios, I will wait but until then nothing is really showing a separation of 40% difference between the 2 consoles.

Yeah? Well, all I've heard from Microsoft is lies and misdirection, so I would love for the "truth" to come out too. But I tend to doubt it until someone actually opens it up and finds out for themselves.

The truth come out and it is not good and now Major Nelson?
