Maybe a more pocket-friendly redesign? Perhaps a hinged model? A Vita phone?

The real enemy here is that something like the new Nexus 7, an iPad, or smartphones are just much better, simpler-to-use proposition for a lot of people. A lot of the audience that would have bought a handheld for some casual puzzle gaming and the occasional other game are getting their fixes elsewhere.

The apathy is staggering based on the most recent sales figures. Since add-ons to consoles have generally low penetration rates, I don't see too many PS4 owners forking out for a Vita controller either. At launch it would be too much money for most, or they would already have one as they are hardcore Sony fans.

Why's everyone going off-topic? This thread is clearly about Pokemon and the OP's undying love for it.

We'll have to see, but the PSP also needed some time before it really took off. Sure, it wasn't the same situation as with Vita. But the strong technology inside the Vita gives Sony an advantage in the long run. In a few years, the 3DS will look really old even to kids and parents. But the Vita will have decent technology even in five years or so. That way, the Vita will be able to survive significantly longer than the 3DS. Same as with PSP and DS. It's even perfectly possible that the Vita is on par with Nintendos next handeld system

The problem with this argument is that the PSP DIDN'T need time to take off. In 2005, the rough equivalent to the Vita's 2012, the PSP sold almost 90% as well as the DS, over 9 million units. That was a pretty fast take-off. The PSP was at its best in 2008, the same time as the DS, but only because it got a new Monster Hunter and God of War that year, and its multimedia capacity was still impressive.

The PSP began to overtake the 3DS in 2011 and 2012, but that was NOT because the PSP had more impressive tech. It was because the DS was successfully being replaced by the 3DS, whereas the Vita is still failing to replace the PSP. If you add up the numbers, you'll find that Nintendo's technollogically inferior pair of handhelds combined (17.4 million sales in 2012) far outpaces the technologically advanced PSP and Vita combined (7.8 million in 2012).

Incidentally, that ratio is similar to the DS:PSP ratio of 2007 through 2009.

It's need more advertisement. But, a few big games like Killzone will be good for it. If you saw how small the Vita section was in every game shop, then that is apart of the problem too. Vita exists but is not noticed by many.

I'm sure if they advertise lots when Killzone, Rayman, Batman, Tearaway and others come out it could do well. Sony needs to prove to developers that their games will do well on it.

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

That's the thing, I didn't even hear of the price cut and I regularly check these stuff. Yeah I've been probably a bit more busy the last 2 weeks but I really doubt many know about this. Has there even been TV ads?

"pocket friendly"? How are people transporting their ipads these days?

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

I would love to know which games would win against SMT IV, Animal Crossing New Leaf, Luigi´s Mansion 2, Fire Emblem Awakening , Mario and Luigi: Dream Team and Project X Zone among many others !

note: Those games are exclusives, games that you can´t get on you PS3 or PC

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but stating the bold is a fact is just wrong

Yes because PS3 and PC can be played on the go. However I didn't say exclusives, I said it had a better release, if you applied "exclusives" to PS3 and 360, there'd barely be 10 games a year released.

Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon - 86

But yeah, Vita has no games and anyone thinking it's had a better release schedule in 2013 than 3DS is clearly deluded :p

Vita is my primary platform due to the long commute I have to and from work, and so I prefer to play  game on Vita than PS3/PC why does the fact a game might also be available on them mean they didn't exist on Vita? Oh yeah, it's the only way the "games" argument stacks up in favour of 3DS, though even then, they're not far apart.

no offense but metacritic does not favor nintendo, you always have reviewers giving a nintendo game a 6-7 while others give it a 9-9.5! It goes both ways sure, but nintendo is hated on to such a great extent. I wouldn't use those #s imo!!! Its good but not always there.

Hahahahahaha.

I'd argue Vita has been suffering a similar problem "oh.. the graphics aren't quite as good as the PS3 version... so we'll dock 2 marks" etc.

But that's fair enough :) but it does support my statement that it has had "critically" the better lineup.

At the end of the day it's all personal preference. For me, Vita is appealing to my tastes more. I have no problem with someone preferring Nintendo titles, and at the end of the day, if you want to play Pokemon or Mario Kart, then all the other games on both systems are completely irrelivant as there's only one place you'll ever be able to play them.

I was more on a bit of a rant because I still see "Vita has no games" and after over 12 months of the same rhetoric it is wearing a bit thin :)

It wasn't meant to be a dig at Nintendo or the 3DS lineup, I have the luxury of having both systems and think they both have some great games. I will agree with you in some regards, CastleVania Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate is one of my faveourite handheld releases of the year, and that didn't make it onto the 75+.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Its funny cuz games that have a score of 90-95, you think users put the same score but end up putting 70-75 lol, opposite way works as well! IMO they need new unique games! Gravity rush to me looks bad ass, my friend got a copy cuz i recommended (doesnt kno shit about gaming world), enjoys it! He needs to send me his vita + GR!!!! Enjoy your Vita games! There is a rumor on Infamous being on vita. Better hope some idiot didn't mean just connectivity for ps4 cuz i be pissed >:(
