Do yah think it will sell more then the original? just wondering |
No way. The original was on two platforms, that had each a bigger install-base than the WiiU has. I think Platinum and Nintendo will be pleased, if it sells 500K.

Pretty sure it is there boss. In the Iwata Asks it's stated that Nintendo asked Kamiya to change the art style of the characters so it would appeal more to elementary aged school kids.
deleted the demo after 5 mins if these are the types of games Nintendo thinks will win over the core they are gravely mistaken,
...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

If that is the case it was a pretty stupid decision.
There's literally hardly any advertising, it's going to fail and bomb, even if some of us don't want that to be the case.

Neither was Pikmin but the only ads I saw for it were on kids nerworks.
Also there are plenty of shows on kids networks that appeal to high school/college students. Shows like Adventure Time, Regular Show, Ninja Turtles are watched by that age group so airing Wonderful 101commercials during those shows could help.

Not to flop as a game, yes, but to help Wii U shake off it's reputation as a flopping system W101 was a bit of a flag waver for Nintendo, and it needs to sell not only itself but it also needs to sell systems. It it fails to sell half to 1 million then it might still make platinum games som money, but Nintendo won't be very pleased with the result. 79 Meta isn't a guaranteed hit. But it's still a good metascore. If it's a genuinely good game that some critics don't seem to get it should still sell pretty well. Nintendo need to do something fresh with it's long established franchises, something like they did with Super Mario Galaxy on Wii. Perhaps the HD Zelda game will be the thing that makes Wii U really take off. |
I don't follow any part of this. Look at Platinum's past titles and try to convince me that any one of them was ever considered so much as a potential system-seller. They make niche games. You really think Nintendo was counting on this game specifically selling Lego City Undercover numbers and noticeably boosting hardware sales?
Every console has dozens of little niche games like this. It's silly to put any kind of weight on W101. Like suggesting that Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir was supposed to sell big and really push the 3DS, that it was a huge flop because it didn't have a Star Fox/Metroid/Kirby/etc -level effect on hardware sales.
People are just looking at the timing of the W101 release and saying Nintendo must intend for it to be a big part of their Holiday Wii U strategy, ignoring that it was in development before the Wii U was even released, before Nintendo knew what their situation would be at this time. It's just a game they funded coming out during a tumultuous time for their console. They aren't suddenly putting the weight of the world on its shoulders. The task of selling the Wii U falls on their big Holiday titles: Mario, Donkey Kong, Wii Fit, Wii Party, hell even Wind Waker is probably going to sell better and push more consoles than Pikmin and W101 combined.

I think the truth is there's only a few IP that Nintendo can reliably sell anymore.
Anything with Mario in it sells reasonably well. Zelda/DKC are b-tier. Yoshi/Kirby are c-tier.
Everything else I think is becoming a tough sell on Nintendo home consoles, even for Nintendo themselves. Partly because I think Nintendo really did not build much critical mass with core players the last 7-8 years. They were busy with casual consumers, but now that they're gone, Nintendo is finding they have a loyal group of consumers that buy a very narrow range of games, and they've lost everyone else.
It used to be even on the N64, new IP like Banjo-Kazooie, GoldenEye, 1080 Snowboarding, Turok, etc. could become big hits, and other non-Mario/Zelda IP could do very well for themselves too like F-Zero and Wave Race and Star Fox.
Even on the GameCube things like Viewtiful Joe, Tales of Symphonia, Pikmin, etc. were able to find good sized audiences, although the regression here was definitely visible as the userbase was becoming too small.
Games like Bayonetta 2, X, Wonderful 101 don't have much of a chance on Wii U IMO. Even Pikmin 3 I think is probably going to have to struggle to break even.
