Forums - Microsoft - Xbox One’s Game Recording Features Restricted To Xbox Live Gold Members

Not a big deal.

So Skype free on Sonys Vita, behind paywall on MS console.

They truly are trolling themselves.

isn't the DVR recording done on the "cloud" side unlike ps4 hardware based solution? this really isn't too surprising.

for that to work the game would need to be either streaming 720 up from your system to the cloud at all times or the game would need to be rendered on the cloud 100% of the time, neither of these things are really possible with the current lvls of global broadband services.

so i'm trying to look up a source but i'm not sure anything is truely definitive either way.  here's an example of what i've been reading so maybe i'm just interpreting it wrong..

In an interview with IGN, chief Xbox One platform architect Marc Whitten laid out some of the features of the Game DVR that will be in the upcoming console.

Most importantly, anything recorded with Game DVR will be saved at 720p 30fps, regardless of the resolution that the game is being played at.

Those videos will be sent to the Upload service, where they’ll be available for editing and sharing with the general public. The Upload section will also be where the Xbox One stores the “Magic Moments” of games, or the last five minutes of a gameplay session. It’s all cloud-based, so videos won’t take up spaces on the Xbox One’s hard drive.

“You’ll also see games take advantage of this platform capability and do interesting things to integrate captured game footage into the game experience itself,” said Whitten.

He also confirmed that Xbox 360 Avatars will be making their way over to the Xbox One on launch day. “They are – your avatar will be on the system at launch and in fact, you’ll have some new options, including the ability to do full-body HD gamerpics,” said Whitten. The Xbox 360’s Gamerpics will also be upgraded to full 1080p.

Things behind Microsoft's paywall are cringe worthy. Basically it's almost a slap to consumers who pay $500 for a product that's restricted to gaming offline and TV features. $500 and they're still putting everything behind more paywalls. All desire I had to buy a Xbone one day is slipping away.

Didn't you read to full article ?

Most TV features are gold only =p

And only 56% take the gold option, so it's for 44% people an offline gaming machine without any further features.

Yeah but I just mean think about it in reality tho, say you are playing Killer Instinct on your machine, and you wanna record the last 5 mins of it, at some point at least it's going to need to upload the footage from your machine to the cloud for it to be available to share....

Unless! and this would be an odd one, if all that would be uploaded from your machine would be the input commands for exactly what was going on at the point in the video, then on cloud side there could basically be a version of KI running which recieves the command info and basically renders you a 720 video of what would happen in that game given those imputs. It's kinda the way older games done instant replays. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

There is always the possibility that the term cloud was dropped into this convo because it is kinda a good buzzword to throw out when there isn't exact info on capabilitys etc too, so could just need to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

That's simply ludicrous.

You know how only one gold account is needed per system for everyone to play online right?

This will be the same way, right guys? Guys?

So no ms is putting hardware features behind a pay wall? Umm just wow.
