Putting everything behind a paywall isn't a good idea in my opinion, especially when your competitor isn't.

Using that logic, why not put all non-gaming features under a paywall? And price it at $500 when you could buy a better PC for the price and a stronger console, both with better exclusives? It's simply arrogant to put this behind a paywall, essentially if you don't pay $60 a year a Xbone is pretty much a Single Player experience. How is that good?

And they want to charge $500 anyway, hey if xbox users let it slide I can undernstand why MS do this kind of things.

Why is this so confusing for a lot of people. M$ isn't "putting it behind the paywall" to screw anyone. What they are doing is storing into the cloud. To store it into their cloud service, you need Live. Until Sony comes out and clearly states that for you to share your videos, you DON'T need PS+, you can't be sure they won't actually need it. The video has to go from the console to the internet somehow. After following a few of the links that people posted in this thread, i didn't see anything that indicated that the video wouldn't be stored on the XBone locally and then transferred to the cloud later. Most of these obscure features can be done many ways and i would guess this could change when we finally get the systems into the market. We don't really know many of the actual details of how either system will accomplish the DVR functions.

I was just saying that they are here to stay. Xbox Live proved to console makers that it was a viable model ... it is not going away no matter how much a small few complain about it. I am not saying I like it either, but there are much larger concerns that are more worthy of our attention (DRM and digital being forced on us). Paywall has never been that big of a deal.

It is all rather meaningless anyways ... I don't see many people even bothering with this. This recording stuff is most likely going to be used to record for multiplayer games anyways which already require gold so not seeing the issue. So Sony's only advantage here is you can record singleplayer games (which are a dying breed) for free ... /golf clap

Sony putting up a paywall is only a scandal because it was (aside from bluray which is also not exclusive to Sony's console anymore either) one of the primary benefits of the system. Multiplayer on PS4 requiring PS+ is a major disadvantage compared to last gen. Not that paywall is such a big deal, but it was marketed and often celebrated as a major advantage of PS3. This would have been a much bigger deal if it had not been overshadowed by the Xbox One DRM disaster at E3.

Microsoft announced that as long as one person on the xbone has gold, everyone can play online on that system. That meant I could just have a family GOLD account and still play online on my personal account.

Now you guys are arguing that every player on a system should pay for GOLD, even when all but one can already play online without it? You're so wrong it's almost comical. This has nothing to do with being anti-social or not wanting an xbox one.

Microsoft hides everything behind the Xbox Live Paywall. If you cannot play online or even go online without Xbox Live wtf are they going to let you onto the recording session for? They dont even let you talk to your friends with mics for free.

There will be two camps on this...

The Sony fanboys will be "OMG! This should be free!"...

and the Xbox fanboys... "So... I already subscribe to Gold anyhow so I don't care".

So playing online os being social?

And offering a different business plan on a different product is a scandal?
