I love your rationale... So simply because paywalls exsist people should accept that and choose them over the option of having the same functionality on another system that provides it for free? Also, how is Sony's requiring a PS+ account for their NEW console to play multiplayer (other than F2P, which MS still places behind their own paywall) a scandal? The system they promised free online play continues to be free to this day and will for at least the forseeable future. I'd say they did right by the PS community in that regard.` |
I was just saying that they are here to stay. Xbox Live proved to console makers that it was a viable model ... it is not going away no matter how much a small few complain about it. I am not saying I like it either, but there are much larger concerns that are more worthy of our attention (DRM and digital being forced on us). Paywall has never been that big of a deal.
It is all rather meaningless anyways ... I don't see many people even bothering with this. This recording stuff is most likely going to be used to record for multiplayer games anyways which already require gold so not seeing the issue. So Sony's only advantage here is you can record singleplayer games (which are a dying breed) for free ... /golf clap
Sony putting up a paywall is only a scandal because it was (aside from bluray which is also not exclusive to Sony's console anymore either) one of the primary benefits of the system. Multiplayer on PS4 requiring PS+ is a major disadvantage compared to last gen. Not that paywall is such a big deal, but it was marketed and often celebrated as a major advantage of PS3. This would have been a much bigger deal if it had not been overshadowed by the Xbox One DRM disaster at E3.
