Your right, it is my assumption, but I make this assumption because there are people on this forum who think that the WiiU will indeed match visually what the PS4/Xbox one can do because of 'diminishing returns' and that magical eDRAM, before that it was the power of GPGPU as neither the PS4/xbox one were announced, and before that it was the WiiU price of $350 which set the tone for WiiU is powerful driven by Reggie and that neither Sony or Microsoft could release an uber specced console cuz it's just to expensive, and yet here we are today, and those goal posts keep moving. Look I don't mean to blanket cover everyone in my statement, as clearly there are those reasonable fans out there, and then there are those rotten apples that ruin it for all, I simply want to make the points I make so I can to pass on my thoughts, this is after all a forum where we pass on our thoughts and discuss things as per the thread. I think you would agree that blatant blind faith towards a product with no substance or grounding in reality is not helpful to the discussion, rather it poisons it causing the thread to die, in any case thank you for your feedback. |
Well I was hoping those nutters have already accepted that the Wii U won't be close but I guess you hav to cover them all.
As for the hardware pricing, at that point in time it was a reasonable assumption that PS4/Xbox one would be comparible as we didn't know what Nintendo had in their hardware. Then after the release of the console and more info leaking out slowly we learned five key things:
1. The gamepad controller was more expensive than anyone predicted. I thought it would cost them mabe $50 not $100.
2. They wanted backwards capabilities, so they changed hardware design to be more inline with the Wii causing more customisation to be made rather the scrapping this idea and using stock standard parts with tweaks.
3. Total power usage (it is amazing what they achieved with the power usage but at what research and dev cost?).
4. Size of console (could have been twice as big and still be smaller than the competition lol).
5. Selling the console without a huge loss (i.e. sold with one game the console is already profitable).
These things to me is what pushed the Wii U price up on build which caused sacrifices to be made in the hardware.
Personally I like the gamepad so I would not ditch it. What they should have done is provided 4gb of ram dedicated to gaming, used an APU from AMD and made the console so you could put in your own hdd inside (Happy to pay for one myself as not everyone needs it). With these slight mods, I think the console could have been sold at say a $50 loss overall and it would not hurt Nintendo too much and in general although it would still be weaker than the other two, make life easir for porting games that have been scaled down without effort.
