GTA4 by itself is not going to phase the Wii a hole lot. However, the combanation of:

-PS3 40GB 299, PS3 120-160GB 399
-360 Arcade 249, 360 Pro 299, Elite 399
-GT5P in US and EU 2 weeks before GTA4
-GTA4 for both consoles
-Too Human May 6
-MGS4 in June

When you take into account all of the price drops and games MS and Sony are rolling out around that time period, then the Wii looks like it is going to be heavely phased. Many may believe that the Wii is in a differant market right now based on games and innovation. I am very interested to see what market the Wii is in when the price differance moves from 100-150 to 50 dollars all the way across. Also remember that Warner will be going Blu-ray exclusive starting the 3rd week in June. Even though many do not want to accept Blu-ray in the gaming community, in the average consumers mind Blu-ray is going to start to gain a lot of traction over the next months leading to summer and christmas. This intrest will be good for both MS and Sony as they can both due Blu, were Nintendo is stuck with nothing.

In conclusion GTA4 is the start of the turn from SD consoles to HD consoles. Not because it is OMFG the greatest game ever, but because Sony and MS both know it has massive casual appeal and they will start pushing their prices down to the level were it is more of a casual buy.

 Do you really think Nintendo couldn't match PS360 price drops???

 Then Wii Fit, SSBB, Wii Kart, Animal Crossing, various 3rd party stuff, etc.

 Sorry. It will be no different than Halo3. PS360 will spike for a couple of weeks, barely matching/slightly beating Wii for those weeks and then bam. Back to the dungeons for you. All the while Wii's sales trend is steady.

The problem is that GTA4 is for two consoles, not 1. No matter how hyped or stellar the game is, it's still a multiplatform game. This is going to leech off potential sales of both the PS3 and X360 as people aren't going to have a single clear choice of console if they really want this game.

As for price drops, Nintendo hasn't started a single one! Who's to say they can't perform a price drop in response to their competitors. When it comes to lowering the price, the company who lowers last often wins.

personal belief- GTA series has seen it best days... it will sell really well(at least 10 million multiconsole)... but part of the hype for GTA3(VC&SA) was sony fanboys hype it to high heaven... now it is multiconsole I do not see it have the system selling affect it did last gen... it will be like SMG, won't make most people buy a console, but once they pick up that console they will be sure to get it.



End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut
