When PS4 launches, PS3 will already be at ~80m.

You're being pretty optimistic xD I doubt it will pass the 80m mark when the PS4 launches.

Third party support will still be pretty strong for the 360/PS3 as the Wii U is being kept at bay by last gen consoles. That and the PS3 still has exclusives coming up until the end of the year and probably beyond.

Huge support and it still hasn't passed 360 sales.

I'm not saying it will stop selling after the Ps4 is in the market; I'm just saying PS3 sales are lagging this late in the gen. I doubt it will reach 80 millions by when the PS4 is here; it will cross the mark later. And by that, it should be clear that the Wii is the sales winner of this gen, because I don't think it will cap its success.

This year the PS3 has been the closest its every been to passing the 360. Chances are if it happens it happens before fourth quarter. Microsoft has nothing for it unless they unleash some killer app games for the 360 at E3.

But still, it wouldn't cross the 80 million mark.

They both will. Sony will still be supporting the console with actual first party even into next year, whilst Microsoft has nothing to show for it. Gears was the last major game they paid for to support it. The PS3 is going to have major legs from June to November because of the last of us. Beyond and other excess exclusives that havent come out that could be shown at E3 will be shown. Sonys first party ended in 2012, thus Sony is showing how efficient their first party scheduling is compared to Microsoft. Without any killer app to keep the PS3 at bay like the kinect did in 2011 through 2012 thats it.

Well at E3 we will know the level of support Microsoft will have for the Xbox 360, right now it seems they have moved on to the new Xbox.

It will be like the xbox and the ps2.

Sony will still take care of the ps3 for a couple of years. they will drop the price to 200$ to 150$ and to 100$. with even cross buy they could make it really appealing for the user.

like the dvd/blueray disney did. you wont really need it but you'll say to yourself maybe i will make the jump.

in the mid time microsoft will stop is support like they did for the xbox, to force people to move on.

and the ps3 will come out of its theoric grave to eat whats left of the 360 leg in america.

LOL Microsoft quit first party support in 2010. All the games were ready and paid for and launched in 2012. You'll see at E3. They did what they had to do to get the gamers to flock with the 360 now they want newer customers. They'll do the same with the 720 and go for the casuals again ten times harder than they ever went for the core in the first place.

They won't. Sales are lagging for both consoles. Perhaps at 2014 they'll cross the line.

You do realize that there are still games coming for 360, right? Obviously not as big as TLOU or Beyond, but games are games. And we don't know how the E3 will play out for the big two (After all Nintendo will not make a huge presence there this year), so we can only wait and see. I stand still with my predictions about hardware, though.

yeah, they did. Why are you using Wikipedia figures when we have up-to-date ones right here on VgChartz?

Poor, poor analogy. The race has a fixed target - 100m, 200m, etc. A console race doesn't. Anything else to say?

Last week, I ran a race against Patrick Makau Musyoki. The race didn't have any fixed target; we were just racing to see who would get the furthest before one of us collapsed and gave up. After a few hours, Patrick has ran about 30 miles. I have ran about 20 miles. Patrick looked back and saw the 10 mile gap and he laughed at my ridiculous pace. He started to walk, then he literally stopped. At one moment, it looked like he even went in reverse a bit. But I kept going and, for a while, I was moving at a faster pace then he was (since he was walking). I got that 10 mile gap down to 8, but I don't know if I can run another 5 miles, let alone 8, before I pass out. Who knows though, maybe I'll get lucky and unlock my hidden potential and I will be able to the entire 8 miles without passing out. Maybe, maybe....

Who is winning?!? I know I'm 8 miles behind but I'm moving faster!

I had trouble finding the north american numbers on vgchartz.

I don't know how to find what I want so easily here.

Much as I hate to say it but M$ pretty much has NA under lockdown.

The Xbox is the symbol of gaming here.

So did Sony with the PS2. We all know what happened there.

Compared to last-gen, North America isn't anywhere near being "on lockdown". If things changed so drastically from the 7th to 8th gen when the PS2 was dominating everything else with a ~40million lead against the XBox, there's no reason a 15million difference can't be overcome next-gen.

Here you go http://www.vgchartz.com/weekly/41385/USA/

Look at the total sales on tablet in the top-right. Xbox 360 actually has a lead of about 15million over the PS3. It'll surpass the Wii some time this year.

The sales are lagging for both consoles but Sony outsells Microsoft every year until fourth Quarter. All Sony needs to do is to beat Microsoft by a million to match sales and then eventually surpass them.

There are games coming for the 360 but the established consumer base use XBLA. Theres no major titles, no first or second party. Its all third party and again...if I am wrong I can only be proven wrong by Microsoft at E3.

P.S.

One way to truly know me if to understand that my opinions are only based on the moment, not the future. I could be wrong and if I am I accept that. I am just going by what the numbers and marketing have been showing.
