Don't forget that this year is different. There's something at the last quarter of this one.

You're right - the PS3 might ship 11M instead of  13M. Unless, of course, the PS3 gets a price drop, which is very likely. So, I'd say sales will be stable.

Don't forget the console incoming...

More than easily offset by a price drop. I'm sure you realise that the PS3 is still expensive for a system this far in its lifecycle and that price drop will substantially boost sales. I mean, what do you think? That PS3s will stop selling the day the PS4 releases?

No, but PS4's first year will hurt Ps3's sales deeply.

As I said, more than easily offset by a price drop. Can I ask - how many millions do you think the PS3 will sell after the PS4 comes out?

Not more than 20 million units, that's what I think.

Why not? The PS2 sold something like 50M after the PS3 launched.

Yes, and when PS2 was around, Sony was the King around the place. The Ps3 however has not reached the power its predecessor had - in terms of sales and marketing -. I see it lagging behind the Wii, no matter what situation is present. Think also that the Wii keep selling units.

I still can't see a good reason why you're saying that the PS3 can't sell 20M after the PS4 launches. You can say what you want about Sony not being the console king but at the end of the day, the facts are showing us that a sytem priced higher than what the Wii cost at launch is still selling very well.

Not really because it would come down to the age old debate about when a console generation ends which we all know differs from person to person.

Not really. How can a person decide when a console generation ends? And what does it matter when a generation ends? The metric is simple - the console that sells the most is the winner of that gen.

So you're saying Nintendo is currently the winner of this gen. Good, we agree.

I'll say it again - how can there be a winner when the race isn't over?

That's why I said it's currently the winner until someone passes it.

That's not currently the winner. That's currently the leader. And that's not the same thing.

I can live with that.

This discussion has already been done to death.

This,

Gave OP benefit of the doubt and looked at thread, no, it's exactly what I expected. Honestly, we've had these for years, we all know MS won the US just like we know MS lost Japan/EU...Or is there something new here?

The company itself would not consider it yes, but the consumers are not the company so they rely on other subjective things to find a winner. Things such as selling the most consoles, selling the most in a shorter time or selling the most with a higher price point. Making the most money in no way makes a certain console win for the consumer.

Mmmhmmm... well Sony is not a winner of the 7th gen in profit or units sold.

Like i said, the winner is subjective when it comes to the consumer, you can say Sony won because they sold that many units and are still selling very well for a system that launched with more than double the price of the wii and is still more expensive than the wii at launch.

I'm not arguing against that. I'm just saying PS3's sales will dry far quicker than with the PS2.

i still see a lot of thread about PS3 would be the king of this gen.....

Why are you using such old numbers? Use the VG Chartz numbers,
Also, I think its exaggerated how "bad" the PS3 did in North America. The PS3 sold 26 million units and will probably end up with 30 million+ in the end which is no failure.

Third party equality+ Xbox Live+ Kinect= America pretty much cornered. They notice how the service thing works in America. You have to keep showing off new all in one services that take over the living room and Microsoft keeps doing that. This is how Apple cornered the cellphone and tablet market. With the 720 and PS4 launching within a similar window there will be a hard time. He who shouts loudest wins in America. Think about it.

Even with a loss in NA, that doesn't mean that winning WW is impossible. I see the gen ending in almost a virtual tie between Wii and PS3 in terms of units sold. It has to be said that this would be quite an amazing result after Wii completely demolished the others in the early years and managed to snatch a lead that people once thought would only grow larger.

would be difficult to pull when they release ps4.... and support would be much much less next year to the ps3.
