why nintendo fan think a Nintendo home console can't fail virtual boy and dreamcast failed wii u will also fail.

it should also be noted that N64 and GC didn't sell very much and only made a profit because Nintendo sold them while making money on each console.  If WiiU sells 21 million I don't think Nintendo will be happy with that (not that they were happy with GC but they made some good money).

But this thread talk about hardware sale number not profit.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

I was going to buy a wii u,but there are not many games for it.
What hurt the wii u is all the talk about weak cpu, slow memory stuff like that.
It a shame that this happened. but once games start comeing sales will pick up.
But iam geting a ps4 at launch and maybe a wii u down the road

Is there actually any argument for a turnaround. That doesn't start with the logic that says everyone wants to play Nintendo first party games. The problem I have with that logic is this. While both Microsoft and Sony have their own answers to those games. What Nintendo doesn't have an answer for is the great third party games those manufacturers get. This is why Nintendo was slipping before the Wii, and it is why Nintendo should have continued to slip as far as the core is concerned.

No, they don't.

Sony and MS have no adequate answer to Mario Kart, (LBP racing and Modnation couldn't even reach 10% of MKWii's sales) Smash Bros, (Playstation Allstars tried and failed) 3D Mario, or Zelda.

As for Wiis all sitting abandoned and gathering dust, software sales contradict this theory.

And the claim that Nintendo "neglected, insulted, and betrayed their long time core players. Nintendo effectively showed those gamers the door, and told them that they had been replaced." That's false. They continued to release plenty of core titles like Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, Smash Bros, Metroid Prime 3 and Other M, Zelda Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Mario Kart,* New Super Mario Bros,* Kirby's Epic Yarn,* Kirby's Return to Dreamland,* Punch-Out...

*These games may have casual appeal, but they are core to long term Nintendo gamers.

Same here.  I'll get WiiU once the great local co-op games are out and Zelda.  That's what I always get Nintendo systems for (maybe a 3DS this Fall for Pokemon).  Mario Kart and Smash Bros are great for when my cousins are over or a sibling is visiting and we want to do something during the day together.

But in all honestly, where's Fallout? Where's Dragon Age? Deus Ex? Metal Gear? Dark Souls? Red Dead Redemption?  I could go on. Sometimes, the core games aren't the exclusive ones. This part here is where Nintendo exactly failed (Not betrayed, that word is horrible) with the Wii, and they're going the same way with the WiiU. They should not be accepting ports; they should be pursuing the core games.

That's not entirely up to Nintendo though, third parties have to play ball for that to happen. My point was, this myth that Nintendo themselves just stopped making core games and switched to making casual games with the Wii only is just that, a myth.

This thing only has one Mario game on it. You have to wait until the 10th Mario came has been out for a month before you can say the system is doomed.

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

hmmmm...so after 3d platformer, gold, tennis, Kart, Dr., Smash (kinda still uses Mario as the mascot),  uh...party, and a couple more.  We'll probably have that in a couple years.

I've said this so often I should copy and paste this for future use lol.

By the time the delayed launch/launch window titles such as Lego City Undercover, Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101, Rayman Legends, Wii Fit and Game & Wario are released the Wii U will pick up sales momentum again. And then you've got the likes of Monster Hunter 3G Ultimate, Wind Waker HD and Bayonetta 2 to take into account too.

Then you have the possibility of a $50 price cut in November to coincide with the launches of a 3D Mario and Mario Kart 8.

You're going to see the Wii U having an installed userbase between 10m and 15m before the end of the calendar year, and you can quote me on that.

Then you need to look at the potential problems that both Sony and Microsoft are going to have. Sony are going to have problems getting the PS4 ontthe shelf for less than $400 considering their ridiculous decision to go for an expensive and high tech machine yet again when doing so from the PSP onwards hasn't done them any favours. 8GB of GDDR5 and a GPU pushing 1.8TFlops isn't going to be cheap.

Microsoft should be able to have the 720 retailing for $399.99 given their more sensible choices with hardware but if the rumours of always online and no used games are true that's going to be a dealbreaker for a fair amount of people.

And if the price and no used games aren't enough problems for the PS4 and 720 in terms of sales you've also got to take into account problems manufacturing components on a 32nm or more likely a 28nm process, there's going to be a lot of wasted silicon and most likely stock shortages.

In terms of units sold Nintendo's year head start will make it pretty impossible for the others to overtake. The 360 would have been last place in a three horse race if it weren't for that 6m or so advantage that an extra year of sales gave the platform, and Nintendo's IPs have considerably more pulling power.

And because of that huge marketshare advantage and Nintendo's forward thinking with regards to hardware and choice of architecture you'll see the Wii U getting a SKU of major 3rd party titles this gen. Publishers aren't going to leave that sort of money on the table now that Nintendo have ditched the TEV Unit in favour of traditional programmable shaders.

It's negative, but I think the negativity is justified a bit. The longest drought in console history, right at the beginning of it's lifespan. That in itself is pretty bad, but the fact that the Wii got little to no support it's last few years, coupled with this, spawns a negative mentality. I'm angry about it myself.

longest drought in console history? are you sure about that?

I think the N64 launch was way more catastrophic, it launched with THREE games..........and still sold 30m+ consoles and a SHITLOAD of software, if i recall SMario 64 was the best selling game of that generation.... this negativity towards Nintendo has to stop, its just embarrasing...

First of all, yes it is the longest drought, unless you count downloadable games.

And secondly, Mario 64 is 20 times better than any Wii U game on the market today. It was the first 3D plat, it was revolutionary. There is nothing like it on the WIi U. That comparison is flawed.

as a nintendo fan since the late 80s I seem to recall this sort of thing happening all the time...of course there might have been points where a few games were released (for whatever system was current at the time) but I had no interest in em so it just seemed like no games were being released as I tend to only go for the 1st party core titles...no wonder I was forced to become a multiplatform guy...

..this game drought just seems like nothing new to me (though I can appreciate why some may find it unacceptible)...I feel like I've been putting up with this shit from nintendo all my life. Lotta newer fans dont seem to realise the wait for just one decent nintendo title in a year (or 2...or 3) is something I feel like I've been 'tolerating' for 20+ years (jeese that's sad, but like I said I'm a multiplat guy so I guess I never noticed cos I was otherwise occupied!). I mean, I've bought maybe 4 games for my 3ds, which I bought at launch and only 2 of those were actually games I would consider hotly anticipated by me.
