Forums - Gaming - Games that should honestly be considered games of the generation.

1.Mass Effect set the standard for TPS Action/RPGs and dialogue.
2.Uncharted
3.Gears
4. Super Mario Galaxy
5. Dead Space
6. Assassins Creed
7. Bioshock

8. Red Dead Redemption (Edit)

9. Witcher 2 (Edit) Set the standard for Action/RPG's.

Theres nothing Nintendo has really done this generation that has set the standard for this generation outside of gimmicks. They could've expanded on wii-mote motion and made some amazing HD games with new IP's making way less of a cash grab but they didn't. They replaced it and will pay the piper because of it.

Game of the generation is Oblivion because not only is it the best game in history but it made Western RPG's popular again and paved the way for Fallout, Dragan Age, Skyrim, Two Worlds and The Witcher.

I'm guessing you never played Morrowind?

Yes I did and in many ways it's better than Oblivion because it's much more hardcore but I still think Oblivion is better because of atmosphere and the world and some other stuff.

I don't understand this thread. In the 95% of games that people have considered games of the generation, OP has come and bash them for it. o.O

Anyway, Braid. For bringing back the never-ending question about wether videogames can be considered art or not. Also, Metro 2033, for proving that FPS can create engaging atmosphere and story, and can last more than four hours.

I would say Demon's/Dark Souls games, but that would be a little biased. I think those games bring back the old-school gaming style, and I give 'em kudos for it.

I'd have said for Demon's Souls etc that they did bring back an old-school feel but adequately built upon it enough to be considered possibly the best RPG series this gen. If we look at Morrowind -> Oblivion -> Skyrim, the series was watered down at each interval, becoming easier with less customisation. Now I haven't played Demon's Souls, just Dark Souls, but it feels like a step up from the previous gen in every way rather than a step backwards with HD graphics. All we need is the customisation of the original Fable (think scratches cuts etc in armour), maybe spell tweaking and *blamo* best RPG to date.

Not sure if you want most influentail or best

Anyway most influential would be

Gears of War
Wii Sports
Call of Duty 4
Just Dance

Best games would be

Halo 3
Bioshock
Dark Souls
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion(with a few mods)

Nah. I need crossdressing, which has been present since the first Fable. Beating Nito dressed as a woman being a man would make it the best RPG to date.

1st: Halo 3 (it pushed online gaming to the next level)
2nd: Wii Sports (it introduced the casuals)
3rd: Skyrim (It executes the RPG genre perfectly well -except some technical issues on the PS3)
4th: The Walking Dead (it paved the way for episodic content. Yeah, some did it before, but this one will make it mainstream)
5th: Angry Birds (if you make billions of dollars with a game that costs 100k to produce, you are doing it right)
6th: Modern Warfare 4 (just like Halo 3, just on another level. For better or worse)
7th: Minecraft (it made indie cool)
8th: Uncharted 2 (It executed the Action-Adventure genre brilliantly)
9th: Gears of War (THIS is the definition of badass for video games)
10th: Geometry Wars (it paved the way for smaller digitally distributed games on consoles)

All IMO

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

I think Castle Crashers deserves that spot, IMO. Geometric Wars is in its own an amazing game indeed, but paving the way for small digitally distributed games was something Castle Crashers did.

Don't forget Uncharted. Most games in this coming gen will be taking from its immersion, cinematics, gamplay and camera movement.
