For bringing back the never-ending question about wether videogames can be considered art or not. Also, Metro 2033, for proving that FPS can create engaging atmosphere and story, and can last more than four hours. I would say Demon's/Dark Souls games, but that would be a little biased. I think those games bring back the old-school gaming style, and I give 'em kudos for it. |
I'd have said for Demon's Souls etc that they did bring back an old-school feel but adequately built upon it enough to be considered possibly the best RPG series this gen. If we look at Morrowind -> Oblivion -> Skyrim, the series was watered down at each interval, becoming easier with less customisation. Now I haven't played Demon's Souls, just Dark Souls, but it feels like a step up from the previous gen in every way rather than a step backwards with HD graphics. All we need is the customisation of the original Fable (think scratches cuts etc in armour), maybe spell tweaking and *blamo* best RPG to date.
