For the first couple of weeks of the price cut it needs to be selling over 5 times the current level, less than 50k would be a disaster IMO......,

Then it needs to settle at well over double current sales as the new low point, 25k per week is an absolute minimum really.

Lol! Sure, Kowenicki. Whatever you say.

...wouldn't it be? Not a disaster, but certainly disappointing (looking at the games released this week as well).

Disaster? No. Good? Neither. Probably, like you said, disappointing. But it's all about how you phrase things. It's like If Wii U doesn't sell at least 200.000 a week after WiiFitU launches, would be a disaster IMO. Wouldn't it be? (If you ask me, no. Not a disaster).

Considering how bad the last couple of months/year has been, over 30.000 would be a miracle in 5 weeks (though still not good)

I think that 30k for 5 weeks is a good start. It's not bad but neither great. You have to consider how the system has been doing the past months or year.

You know, I've gotten mod nation racers the other day. It was a dollar fifty cents out of pocket with a random 2 dollars I had in my account, the 10 dollars sony gave me, and the MNR sale sony has going on right now. So, as far as I'm concerned, I've saved a pretty penny.

That game, and Jetpack Joyride have me actually WANTING to play my vita. Before, it was just sit around.. for days, not being touched except for when I want to have an MP3 player, because all my other portable music mediums are broken.

But, you know.. Those games are fun, and I'm sure there's other fun games. The vita had the largest launch line up of any sony console so far. I don't think it's a problem of no games, but, rather, people are forgetting. I've got mod nation for a $1.50. Worth every bit of 30 dollars. I love the game. But, people aren't going to know to buy it or expect to have such a deal. Others may not enjoy racers too, but, there's other games.

I mean, if I didn't have a vita right now, it wouldn't bother me at all that I could have had mod nation racers for a $1.50. I hope what I've said made sense... :(

Sony wheres the worldwide price cut >=(

Around the date new AAA games arrive, so that it has a better effect on sales.    Japan got the price cut, so that with the new games arriving, the PSVITA would be an instant massive buy.

At least that is what I think :D

I agree that dropping the price around the time of a AAA game would be advisable, but...what is there in the near future which would qualify as one (i.e. selling well over 1 million units)?

Killzone and tearaway?

Tearaway has no firm release date so probably won't be here for another 6 months at least, and even then it's a new IP so is unlikely to be a real system seller.

Killzone is coming in September, so that's still 6 months away, and it's not being developed by the same team who did the other titles. In addition, Killzone has never been as huge as Uncharted (2.9mil for the best selling title vs. 4.5mil for the worst respectively), and although the Uncharted game for Vitawas a launch title, it's still to sell a million units. And the PSP Killzone title never broke a million units, either. Add in the fact that the other two "huge" FPS Vita titles have turned out to be terrible (and although the series' are much bigger than Killzone although the series is in decline, still struggled sales-wise) and you've got a lot of people with a sour taste in their mouths.

So the "best" chances for the Vita to have big games are an untested new IP with no release date and a FPS title which isn't as big as the other two titles that have come before it which launches in 6 months? I don't see anything here that screams "BUY ME!" to the masses. I'm perfectly content (not 'happy') with my Vita, but do I expect it to perform sales-wise? Not really.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I expect it to have a sale boost on par with what the 3DS had during its price cut. Or am I being rediculous?

Next week numbers will be intredasting! Vita > 360?

I doubt that Japan alone can close the gap that much but it certainly should be closer.

So far me neither.   I am not sure of those games being able to sell consoles.  But I think that so far there is not a heavy hitter in the horizon.   The games I mentioned will sell great among people who already have a VITA, but I dont think they will sell vitas unless they get 10/10 and good promotion.

Unrelated to the thread's topic, but I feel the same every time I see people write defiantly instead of definitely. -__-

people are so pessimist PSVita will sold more then 50k easily in the price cut week.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

Vita still isn't quite popular here in Japan when compared to 3DS. The sales are definitely better, but without much support right now the vita really has no use.

I just sold mine a few days ago, and won't buy it again unless there's stronger support.

Soul sacrifice can't hold its own, Persona 4 didn't help it much when it dropped either.. Give Vita another 5-6 months perhaps around the release of PS4.

small44 : I would like to believe that but i prefer to be realistic, considering there is no real big system seller coming, for what we know ( SS could become one ), a price cut without big titles coming is useless, thats why Sony is trying to push Toukiden/Soul Sacrifice and oll these games Japanese could like.

And thats why there wont be a price cut in west until the release of Killzone/TearAway/Ys Celceta and probably others titles, in fall.

But there is some positive news : Most of the Vita models are sold out in Akiba and on Amazon.jp ( even the soul sacrifice bundle ), and Soul Sacrifice is 5 in the pre order top

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m
