Well, they said they want the "Core" audience again and that's what they made the Wii U for. Good idea? No. But they seem to think it is. I chose the "maybe" option because that one best fit what I thought.

If they wanted the core gamer back, then why make such weak hardware? The truth is, they tried to get BOTH and by doing so, got neither. I wish them the best of luck, as they're the company of my childhood, but it's not looking good.

As we saw with the Wii, casuals dont care for graphics /performance, so why would they Care for Wii fit HD?

They cared for wii fit plus. Why not again?

Buying Wii fit plus didn't involve buying new hardware to play.

Also, it may have been completely different customers who purchased it.

If a casual wants a casual experience to enjoy the Wii series of games, why would they spend 300 $ on a Wii u,  when they could purchasea cheap Wii?

time will tell I guess but past experience has proven sequels can be a good way to attract audiences to a new console . wii fit u may not be that product, but there's no reason to be so blatantly negative that it wont at least tempt some people to pick up a wii u.

Well, to be fair, you can't really blame a company for trying to appeal to everyone.

Frankly, I think the "core" audience is overrated. If someone is a true "hardcore" video game enthusiast, that person will buy the Wii U anyway.

It's the people who are casually interested in video games who matter most. They made the NES, SNES, PS1, PS2, and Wii succeed.

I diagree about the Wii. The "casually interested" made the others succeed but the Wii's success, imo, wasn't a result of casually interested GAMERS, but non gamers in general. I think the Wii was nothing more than an electronic Beanie Baby in that EVERYONE, no matter what, had to get one. It just so happened that the "thing to get" was a video game console.

As for the importance of core gamers, we're the loyal, never dying cash cow and without us, it's thin ice.

OK, that's a fair point. It was probably a combination of "casual" fans and people who were previously disinterested in video games. But I think Nintendo should be applauded for introducing video games to that group. Many of the people who never owned a video game system before the Wii are now much more interested in video games in general.

As for your last point, "core" gamers are certainly the last line of defense, but our very loyalty makes us dependable. Neither Nintendo, Sony, nor Microsoft ever have to worry about me, because I'm going to buy their products regardless. Unless they did something stupid like block used games :P

People will buy when the games and price of the console are right. Getting fans of Wii Sports to buy a Wii U will obviously be easier, if Wii Sports is on the system and is an improvement over previous installments.

Nintendo hasn't lost these gamers forever, but they have lost goodwill by designing the Wii U in a way that doesn't meet these people's expectations. This means that these people won't buy based on potential, but rather on available games and thus it will take quite a while before Nintendo can expect an upswing in Wii U sales.

Exactly what I think. The sales of Just Dance 4 show, that the casuals are already existant and willing to buy console-games if quality games are offered by game-developers. It seems, that these days only Ubisoft has an interest in the money of the casuals.

Nintendo would need a Wii Sports Resort U and has to make a bundle of the WiiU with this game and a Wiimote - and without a gamepad.

The thing about casuals, is that they want something new, sure, angry birds made some fans who still buy the sequels but most of them moved to something else, the same happened to the wii sports crowd, and the wii fit crowd, some will stay, most of them will move on to other things. Nintendo (And sony and microsoft) need to make new stuff that attract this different crowds if they want the huge numbers of the wii, and that can be done with software, not only hardware.

What facts bring you to the opinion, that the Wii sports crowd or the Wii Fit crowd moved on? Which Wii Sports or Wii Fit game sold bad?

Sales for Just Dance and Zumba Fitness tell a different story.
