Forums - Nintendo - Wii owners, is it our fault that the Wii U isn't getting better third party support?

While Wii owners did support some of the 3rd party games they did a pretty poor job of supporting anything "Core" outside of Nintendo 1st party.

I'll get some major flack about what Im saying but its the truth. I can't blame 3rd parties for being hesitant about bring their big gun hardcore franchises over to the Wii U user base when theres little evidence theres a market for them there.

Wii U owners will have a major chance to put their money where their mouth is with Bayonetta 2. Its exclusive, isnt a late port, and isnt gimped on features. It's vitally important that game does well.

I expect heavy 3rd party support from Japan however as it appears Nintendo is really focused on that market

Funny. I don't recall Nintendo owners ever being given a chance to purchase a big-gun hardcore franchise. Outside of Monster Hunter, which we bought.

You mentioned it earlier. If only Wii users had bough Dead Space Extraction (and thinking about it, CoD) in larger numbers then third party support would have been much greater! Every Wii owner that bought superior Nintendo offerings instead of third party efforts should feel ashamed!

LOL dead space onrails and COD sold well for the games it did get.

What killed all chances of COD on a Nintendo platform is the fact MW did not come out. Everyoen by then who wanted to play COD moved onto 360/PS3, me included.

But third parties obviously expected more! Mario and his party just got greedy and yoinked all the sales whilst the general gaming public with their short term thinking obliged by only buying quality first party games.

Third parties are to blame , they are the only one who excluded themselves from the Wii.

Personally I have bought some third party game , No More Heroes, Madworld, LKS, DBZ and I even took Bloom Blox for cheap to give it a try (bad game). But all these games were niche games that could not sell a lot.

The third party refused to release their blockbusters on Wii. They can only blame themselves.

This is how I see it. The 'lack' of announcements as you put it is not to do with nintendo. It is to do with it being a new system finding its feet. Go and look back at how bad ps3 and 360 were when they came out. If you think wii u has a lack of support you would have had your others gasping for air because they didn't get any truly notable third party support until after the first year. Bayonetta 2, monster hunter, dragon quest, lego city or 101 might not be on the scale gears of war is but I bet that I like most of them more then that. The only other big exclusives microsoft had that year was oblivion and dead rising. Not much to write home about.

For third parties themselves, I find it funny how Zelnick said that the gta dlc flopped because it was 'too late' but if gta were to flop on wii (and he doesn't know it would because he never tried) it would be nintendo's fault. Frankly I would have seen ports of gta iii, vice city or san andreas as financially viable as gta iv on the other systems because wii isn't exactly expensive to port to is it?

People like him have my sympathy. Not because I'm spiteful towards him but because those big western companies are only going to set themselves up for failure next gen.

Lets say bioware and gearbox decided to jump ship because the games 'flopped'. Even though in mass effect's case we all know why, they jumped off far too early to be able to see their games sell more in the long run of things so they have pretty much shot themselves in the foot. The games would sell more as the system sells more. Maybe they wouldn't sell on the scale of the others but who cares as long as they get money back? The big question is what would they abandon wii u for? Just because they don't see the types of figures nintendo see on their software? Thats fine but you need to look at the risk you are taking by making such a move.

You are abandoning a console where more people would buy your game for the sake of developing for a system where you are required to sell 20 million copies to break even? Good luck with that. At least if you sink you can't blame nintendo. Thanks for mass effect. I love it. I'll also probably enjoy aliens when I get around to it.

One more thing to complete my year = senran kagura localization =D

I did my part for the Wii. I bought as many "Hardcore" third party games as I could afford. Just look at my games list. And so far 2 of my 4 games for the WiiU are third party. Zombiu and Tank, Tank, Tank. Also I have Aliens Colonial marines on order. Most third parties are scared of the success that Nintendos franchises in my opinion which doesn't help Nintendo consoles get decent third party support.

It is a self fulfilling prophecy. If the major reason why people buy Nintendo consoles is because of Nintendo games then third parties just aren't going to find as receptive an audience as on other platforms. The fact remains that people buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games and Nintendo makes Nintendo consoles mainly as a way to sell Nintendo games.

Tease.

I still stand by the notion that the best reason to buy Nintendo hardware is to play Nintendo games.

I don't think I'm a minority demographic in that respect either.

Ive always put a 2-way blame on it.

Firstly, Nintendo. The way they advertised the Wii. The games they released for that audience. The focus from Nintendo was 80% on the new casual market. Mums, little girls, grandmas and grandads. The market for these games exploded, and a cheap crappy game could sell a Million. Which leads me to...

Secondly, Third Parties. They saw the Wii as a profit machine to fuel the big HD Blockbuster titles on PS360. A little party game could sell 100k units and make a tidy profit, so when they see games like Carnival Games hitting big milestones then the choice becomes obvious. They were blind to efforts like the RE4 port, and let the Wii have spinoff titles instead of the serious big titles, again due to the profits.

The consumer cant really be blamed, because the Wii consumer bought games. Lots of games. Its just the type of games they bought werent necessarily the blockbuster... They were the preschool party game.

Its a double edged sword. With huge success they also segregated a huge part of the market.

I bought a couple of 3rd party games I thought deserved my money but they were few

3rd parties have only themselves to blame when they give us crap and expect us to buy that crap

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

Good third party games had good sales on the Wii. But there were to few of them. Only the third parties are to blame.
