Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo is silent for a reason

The big thing is, MS and Sony will have games for launch obviously... , we know 3rd parties will be working for titles on launch, and then there will be games that will be teased. Thats ALOT for people to think about.

The difference is that there will be 2 console companies pushing very hard to get people to buy their console and 3rd parties will be doing the same (because they know they probably wont sell many games on the Wii-U)... Thats alot pushing for a Sony/MS buy, compared to at the moment, Nintendo. So Nintendo *might* have games by the end of the year, but they are going to have to be big hitters to compete with three parties all pushing for next gen. It doesnt help Nintendo that there will also be the cheaper current gen consoles still getting releases and selling at a cheaper rate.

True, but the current gen consoles will be getting phased out by PS720 launch, so they no longer pose a threat at that contention point, amiright?

No you are wrong. (sorry :)

There will still be games coming out for the current Ps3/Xbox. Certainly for christmas and at least 6-12 months.

no, GTA5 will still be a major selling point for the PS360 like GTA SA was for the PS2.  But I think that will be more of a problem for the Wii U since Nintendo will most likely try to match its Wii U price to current console pricing, which is going to be a big mistake.

Am I wrong in saying the Metroid series is quite damaged nowadays and Zelda will have to be something really special?...the impression I get is Skyward Sword left a big 'meh' impression on gamers.

Assuming you're right, then doesn't that pose a threat to next-gen consoles too?

@tw. GTAV would be a type of swan song, like GTA was for the PS2 (was it San Andreas?). But that only goes so far, since people are aware that the consoles are being serviced out and are gearing to get future-proof.

There will always be a cross over (though Wii was probably less so in this respect?). With a combined console sales of over 100 million between sony/ms, its too big of a market to ignore initially.

Its just whether companies will have a combined game that runs on both or were talking more about download games..or reduced normal releases. just dont know yet. But i dont expect it to be dead over the Christmas period or the first 3 months of the year, with both companies and 3rd parties, there is always a chance of something being released (including DLC etc).

The PS3/Xbox will initially have an impact on sales for next gen consoles, but I feel the really big new releases will really give gamers a reason to buy...

One thing is for certain, its going to be an interesting year :)

I think Nintendo got afraid to hype the games in advance - like they did with 3DS (Luigi`s Mansion, Kid Icarus, for example).
In 2007, Nintendo released some big games for Wii: Mario Party 8, Wii Fit, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, Super Paper Mario, Mario Strikers Charged and Metroid Prime 3.

So far, the biggest titles are Pikmin 3 and Lego City. Here`s hoping the next Nintendo Direct announces some big titles like Splinter Cell and GTA V.

Let`s see what Nintendo has in store for this year. But given it will have to compete with one or two new consoles, it will need some big titles.

I think that what they need is exclusives. I dont think anyone buys a Wii U for the multi-platform titles if they already have a 360 or PS3.

They have some good exclusives coming: Lego City, Pikmin 3, Bayonetta 2, Wonderful 101, Rayman Legends.

Of course those aren`t the equivalent of Halo, GT5 and so on, but those will come.

The current strategy won't turn out to be a more powerful one. It's not really going to affect the period around the PS4 and Nextbox launches, but it's hurting their current sales and thus the already low third party confidence. Winning the holiday season 2013 in a big fashion won't mean much, if the pipeline for new game releases in 2014 is dry due to third parties not greenlighting games because of low Wii U sales through 2013 (excluding holidays).

We have the example of the year DKCR, Epic Yarn, Epic Mickey and MJ the Experienced all launched with short notice (Nov 2010). What do you think that did to 3rd party confidence? I understand that until they're out it hurts, but when they are released, don't they shock more, especially when released in clusters?

Obviously, Nintendo is going to be competing with the PS4 and next Xbox, so they would rather be silent now and wait until around E3. With that being said, a little hint of something would definitely keep the Wii U sales going through this period, but what do I know about marketing?

Essentially, Nintendo has to show a lot at E3 in order to get it's potential consumers to buy the 350 dollar system. IMO, it was rushed to get the the holiday sales in, and give the system some exposure. Could Nintendo pull a E3 2010? Very much likely, so we will just have to wait, unfortunately.

Estelle and Adol... best characters ever! XD

Nintendo has the guns. I think most would love a "New Super Metroid" but I digress... Nintendo makes some of the best games in the world, that is why people buy their system.
