Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo is silent for a reason

launch?  lol, probably not.  ..but they'll announce.  they'll show show off something to help motivate the consumer that their box is the one to be purchased.  exactly what Rol just said, "you don't buy the cat in the bag".

What I'm saying though, by launch time, the cat would be out of the bag. So it would be the choice between

A - A console that has lots of potential but usual launch games (PS720) and

B - A console that has been out for a year and reserved its big releases for now and they're being revealed as we speak. (U)

Well if you look at the top 10 games being played online for the xbox 360, im sure most of those same games will be for the next xbox, coupled with having the same friends, same xbox live experience, why would they look  the Wii U 's way? same for the PS3.

With the wii, Nintendo gave no continuity from the Wii to the Wii U, outside wii motion which the company stopped supporting (and its userbase responded by not buying its next system in spades) and making it harder to play Wii game by having an emulation mode.

I really think you are missing the continuity aspect of gaming happy

Any of you notice we aren't hearing much from Nintendo regarding what's in the works for the WiiU?

Well, I have a theory. The PS4 and 720 are in the works, and I think Nintendo wants to make sure they secure the new market they're going after: the core.

"Where's Zelda?", you ask, "Where's Metroid?". Well, I firmly believe that these are in the works just as much as the next Mario, and Nintendo are being very secretive about them so as to take the market by surprise.

I know, I know, SS came out in Nov 2011, but a man can dream, right? :)

zelda skysword sold 3.5 miilion to a user base of 90 million, its not a system seller anymore and metroid is a huge bomb on wii, nintendo ip's are irrelevant, that's the sad truth,  what's bigger then the NSMWU, if that can't sell systems, i don't think anything can, except maybe wii u fit and wii sports if those fail, its over.

and i'm saying if nintendo keeps to their "we only talk about games a few months out" strategy and MSony stick to their "we talk about games 1+ year out" at launch PS720 will have the perception of more games.  especially among the core that eats these sort of announcements up.

The continuity aspect is something I understand tw, but I think there are much stronger arguments. For example, the timing and pricing of the PS3 completely obliterated any possible continuity.

True, online community is a new force to recon with in the strategy of a console launch, and true the 360 has undeniably the strongest online community. The gradual migration of 3rd party games to the PS720 will also help in terms of continuity and damage the WiiU pretty strongly, those are points I understand.

But that ties back into the fact that Nintendo is being strong-armed against two competitors rather than one, where having the weaker console isn't as advantageous as it once was, due to increased multi-plat support nowadays.

Having put that aside momentarily, since that's already set in stone and there's no changing that performance discrepancy, I was looking at it from a Nintendo point of view, what can they do now, given the U's performance in contrast with the performance to the successors to its competitors' products, and whether or not waiting until the launch of said successors to release the slew of games is more advantageous than supporting the launch itself.

@kitler. So in essence you're sayin' that released games (ready 1 year ahead of announced games) are less convincing than announced games, if my assumptions and yours are on the same page. Assuming as many games are released on U at PS720 launch as are announced for PS720, which is more convincing?

Lol at Ninjablades comment, really really really nice analysis you made there....

Nintendo is silent because they want to give room for the third party games currently out on the Wii U a chance to sell/have all the attention, rather than having people day dreaming about games 9-24 months out.

They'd rather you just break down and buy that copy of Zombi U because you've played everything else than obsess over Zelda U or something.

That said, I think that period is coming to a close, there probably will be a Nintendo Direct for the Wii U before the month is up. 3DS already got its big Pokemon X/Y reveal, so now Wii U should got a Nintendo Direct focused on it.

Love your signature image (Operation Rainfall)

OT, i think Nintendo its obviously holding everything for last Q of the year, for the sole reason that they are selling it at a loss atm and maybe for holiday time this wont be the case anymore
selling many consoles now would mean more losses than sellling them later this year

That's an excellent point.
