Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo is silent for a reason

new perspective i just thought of to add.

how damaging to vita and boosting to 3DS was the MH4 announcement? think about it.

It was beyond major.  But Nintendo can't do that on WiiU.  You're talking about moving the single biggest title on a system and a 3rd party exclusive from your competitor to your own.  That would be like Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 4 announced as WiiU exclusive. Boost WiiU and damage others? For sure, but it's not going to happen.  The best Nintendo could hope for would be like what MS did and announce that GTA5 and FFXV will be coming to WiiU as multiplat.  That would help interest for sure, but probably not too much.  1st party announcement will create buzz, but the actual sales probably won't happen until the games are closer to release.

MH4 still isn't out and maybe i have a cloudy view of history but as i remember it there as almost an overnight change in perspective.  vita hate and 3DS optimism when though the roof.

It's as clear as day they're keeping their cards close to their chest you'd never believe Bayonetta would be U exclusive this time last year and they have the money and enough non-financially viable games out there to pull out more cards like out, I'll say I agree with the person who said Nintendo aren't aiming for the core but are instead putting more effort into third parties which makes it seem like the cores are on their mind but they're not. It's more to help the new market grow, I hear Sony are considering dumping the dualshock for a tablet controller as well and Kaz Hirai has made some discouraging comments about pricing.

It's always about the games in the end. Nintendo has a huge whealth of beloved IPs, it was a big mistake not to leverage it at E3 2012. They are trying to convince people to shell out $350, you can't do that with only NSMBU and Nintendo Land.

I know ToS, but what I'm trying to say in OP, and what I was telling mugen is that I'm thinking they may have made a smart move in that, instead of launching the console with a punch, they're making a post-launch y2  bang in time for the launch of the twins' successors. Hence the gap, hence the absolute silence.

It's just a theory though, but I was supporting the reasonable quality of such a strat by pointing to the 360's success as of y2, and the same for the PS2.

I sure hope you're right. It's true that Wii came out last (by two days) in the current gen so it had to have a great lineup right away.

Any of you notice we aren't hearing much from Nintendo regarding what's in the works for the WiiU?

Well, I have a theory. The PS4 and 720 are in the works, and I think Nintendo wants to make sure they secure the new market they're going after: the core.

"Where's Zelda?", you ask, "Where's Metroid?". Well, I firmly believe that these are in the works just as much as the next Mario, and Nintendo are being very secretive about them so as to take the market by surprise.

I know, I know, SS came out in Nov 2011, but a man can dream, right? :)

i have my bet on 2014 for zelda...

would you be satisfy by majora's mask remake?

On the 3DS, yes. But for the U, I'd need something better, a whole new Zelda game in the mood of OoT. Not pretentious, full of mystery, open world.
That would make me a very happy gamer.

N64 might have been better than the ps1 but the ps1 was still waaaay better than the snes.

the wiiU, whether true or just percieved, doesn't feel like a significant jump of the ps360's in people's homes for the last 6+ years.  there is a huge difference there.  i'm not droping $300 on next, last gen technology.  i might not always "upgrade" to bleeding edge tech but i do by new things i certainly expect perceivable, significant improvements.  otherwise, what's the point?

this is exactly why a small jump for MSony is a terrible idea.  improvements aren't limited to just graphics but i need to have some feature(s) to hang my hat and say to myself - damn i wish i had that.

Okay, now what if the U had games you wanted. Actually, what games do you want in general, dev agnostic, name like 3 or 5 franchises you're looking forward to or would like to see.

If that came out on U, what would that do to your need for graphical improvement?

..hence why i am arguing that saying silent is a terrible idea.  if there was something announced to be excited for right now my tune could easily change.  BUt.. if they stay silent until E3 now your risk is that i go into E3 with a negative impression of wiiU and that perspective won't be changed because by the time things i would be interested in are announced MSony also announce things i'm just as interested in.

it's the same thing as to why things like xenoblade did nothing to changes peoples view of the wii.  timing is important, opinions are hard to change, first impressions are always the most important impressions.  nintendo needs to announce now and not say silent until E3.  by June, the core will have made up their minds.

i don't know what system the massives will gravitate to but i do know this.  my choices are enormously influced by what system my friends get because i want to be able to play with them.  success builds success.  failure builds failure.

Okay, yes, but you are assuming that the PS720 will launch in force, when there are many PS3 exclusives in the making (GoW Ascension, TLoU, etc.). 10-year plan remember?

And the 360 just got Halo 4.

@aiko. Hey :), yeah I think MM 3D would be a good sequel to OoT 3D. I own OoT 3D personally and I think it's a fantastic remake. I don't need more for MM. Maybe would've taken HD for OoT, but imo it's not needed for MM, which is more whimsical in and of itself. Just my taste on this.

There are only two options for why Nintendo has been staying silent:

1. They have no games in development, because they wasted all their resources on Miiverse and other non-gaming applications.

2. They are stupid. Really, really stupid.

Since it's very unlikely that Nintendo isn't working on any games, that leaves us with the second option. This also lines up pretty well with their behavior in the last couple of years. Their financial results are further evidence to support this assertion.

Nobody at Nintendo seems to understand that buying a console is seen as a big investment and thus people would like to know what games they can expect to come out at what time before making the purchase. It's hurting Nintendo greatly, because people won't buy the cat in the bag.

Nintendo put themselves deliberately into a PSV situation. At this point the only difference between the PSV and Wii U is that the outlook for the PSV was and is bleak, because there are virtually no big games in development while for the Wii U it is bleak, because Nintendo is refusing to announce/confirm the big games that are in development.

I realize that for 2013 sales performance towards gaining the core, it is stupid. But come the launch of the PS720, when the dominance actually matters, isn't a punch better than a delivery?

launch?  lol, probably not.  ..but they'll announce.  they'll show show off something to help motivate the consumer that their box is the one to be purchased.  exactly what Rol just said, "you don't buy the cat in the bag".
