WiiU - Good supply, fair price
Wii - Limited supply, affordable
PS3 - Good supply, $600
X360 - Limited supply, expensive
These are factors that need to be looked at as well before considering the launch a success a failure or a success.

People always bring up these kind of points but honestly I don't see the relevance other than for fanboy bragging rights. Using price as an excuse for not selling is no better than using lack of games for not selling, those are the factors in play at that time.
If console X sells more than console Y, even if console Y is $200 more expensive, it doesn't matter. Console Y still got beaten, still failed to expand it's user base by as much and failed to improve its attractiveness to third parties. You can make predictions about what might happen if a particular console dropped in price or actually got good software support but it doesn't change the fact that it got beaten in a particular time frame.
It might bear some more relevance if console X was being sold at a loss to get a head start over console Y but we know that is not the model that Nintendo uses, the Wii U is already close to profitable.
