Forums - General - is it possible to like or love everyone?.

No, that's not possible, at least I don't think so. Better question, why do I need to love/like everyone or anyone?

because of self respect?

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

I think you can find something to like it in just about everyone. But unfortunately there always seems to be enough of the population is trolls, mean, or in needing of so much attention they are annoying. So even if there is *something* to like there might be *many things* not to like.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Tell me a funny joke!

I don't see why not. You'd just have to be relatively unselfish and detached and work off the idea that everybody does the shitty things they do for a reason.

Yes it is possible to love everyone. But it's not necessary to like someone to love them. If you think of everyone as part of your extended family then you can muster up a bit of love for everyone.

But it takes effort and most people can't be bothered.

Is it necessary? Only if you want a more peaceful world. But if you are OK with the rather dysfunctional status quo then I guess it's not necessary.

SOmeone once said "why not try peace for a while, if it doesn't work we can always go back to war." Similarly why not try love for a while, if it doesn't work you can always go back to hate and estrangement.

"When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace."

Sure. I mean, I don't divide people between good and evil. I say that some are fortunate while others are unfortunate. The former usually have many reasons to be liked or loved while I feel sorry for the latter.

In other words: I don't believe in free will, therefore I don't dislike people for being unfortunate.

If there truly is free will though, I don't see why I would choose to like people who make stupid and/or overly selfish decisions for no reason.

Well, that's rather silly. You give up on war, and the other side doesn't, and you have a pretty huge problem on your hands.

The other thing, I suppose, depends upon your definition of "love".

I probably wouldn't like a guy who likes everyone.

Yes.
