The slim is working very well, however it has happened on several occasions that our 1 year old can't resist the eject button which immediately aborts any game that was playing without saving. Maybe a top loader is not such a bad idea.

That is untill your 1 year old touches that exposed laser lens with their finger rendering the BD drive useless.  Maybe it's me, but the "Slimmer" looks like a cheap throw back to the days for the NEC Turbo Duo (cool system, but poorly constructed).......

I didn't realize space was the main incentive for slims. I thought people just cared because smaller looks better. In any case, the new slim allows more space in front of and behind itself. 

Imagine the Phat PS3 for example, then imagine it suddenly grew 30% backwards and forwards. Sure, it's the same width, and doesn't effect the allignment of the other consoels, but it's clearly uglier. The opposite is the case with the Slim. It may not have a smaller width, but it is drastically smaller, which looks nicer.

Here's the other problem: it's also ugly.

I would say my favorite looking ps3 if it wasn't for the hideous disc drive. Why couldn't you actually make the console better Sony?

yep SATA 2.5inch, hwoever from what I herd you may need to buy the hdd bracket? I think that was probably BS rumor as it make no sense to ship a PS3 without it.

As I said, my main concern is that the hdd is now under the disc drive, I hope the heat from the hdd does not cause disc malfunctions.


I'm not sure of the validity of the rumor but there are laptops that don't come with the extra bracket for a second hard drive. Why? So the manufacturer can overcharge for the bracket.

Wirless N is worthless.

Still not enough bandwidth or reliability to stream HD video from a server and no benefit to lag for gaming and no benefit to gaming as the extra bandwidth isn't needed.

 

Wireless N allegedly can do 150mbits - but that isn't full duplex. I've never witnessed more than 5-6mbs over any wireless-n connection - even using high speed Wireless-N routers and dongles that say it's connected at 300mbps etc.

 

 

In terms of the new PS3....

 

I think it's hideous, reminds me of cheap electronics in consoles from the late 80s90s. Looks downright tacky.

I was never a fan of the streched oval form factor of any of the PS3 models, which is the one thing this carries over unfortunately.

It's only rivaled (and beaten) in ugliness by the original Xbox.

Lol yeah.. that redesign is a freaking disaster. It looked ugly on the electronic store's broshure. 

 

And this comming from a guy who loved the ps3 slim 1.0 design more than the ps3 phat.

That one of the BIG mistake, also should of bring back the extra 2 USB ports.

I don't like the texture of the surface, so much dust will get in it and it will be a pain in the ass to clean it up.

Also if standing vertical, you will have to hold the console with one hand while putting disk in with the other.

This makes it totally impractical for practical use of this vertical feature (space saving). Thereby just proving it was a silly gimmick after all used 95% of the time by loser children who want to be cool :p as it can't save space if you need to have access both sides.

i.e. Best place for it is on top of a pedestal in middle of room with rocket booster egg carton attached underneath and painted orange.
