Apple has really messed it up with Maps.

Acording to this app, the "Ebro", the 2nd longest and the largest river in Spain, now crosses Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. And the "Costa Brava", in the Mediterranian side of Spain, is now in South Africa.

Of course it's terrible, they made a maps app in a few months... Do you honestly expect it to be as good as Google maps which has been around and built on and improved for nearly a decade?

Apple maps will be continually improved and it'll be as good as google maps in no time.

Yup, it's not looking good.

Ye I'm really not impressed with it. It takes too long to focus and the picture quality is poor.

Did anyone expect otherwise? First gen Apple software is always lacking. OS X 10.0. iOS lacking copy-paste and multitasking. iTunes. Safari.

The point is that they had a superior map app before this. The fact they changed for a clearly inferior product is ridiculous. It should have at least been as accurate as google maps. There are some pretty huge errors in this. There's no excuse for that.

Surely, then, they shoud have kept using Google Maps until they were sure that their own software was of a decent standard. 

If I had just forked out for a new iphone - I would be very annoyed about this. 

What do apple gain by ditching google? can someone explain it please?

If ads can be placed on the maps service they can gain revenue that way.

Google loses out as it gets less revenue from its maps service. 

It's more about hurting a competitor.
