TTT2 is selling like crap.  I knew it would be a flop after the disaster tekken 6 was. I am waiting for them to step their game up and make Tekken 7. Hopefully it will have a proper story mode and not just mindless 30 secs CGI movies.

Same here. Never expected much for it, especially after all the other fighting games that flopped in the last months. The genre simply doesn't have enough fans to support that many different series.

Street Fighter X Tekken sold 690k units combined
SoulCalibur V sold 820k combined
Persona 4 Arena sold 300k combined (though it's not an established fighting IP)
________________________________________________________________________________________________
Now a comparison:

Tekken 6 PS3 - 376k Week 1 (322k USA+Europe+Japan)
Tekken 6 360 - 152k Week 1 (133k USA+Europe+Japan)

Tekken Tag 2 PS3 - 147k Week 1 (USA+Europe+Japan)
Tekken Tag 2 360 -   65k Week 1 (USA+Europe+Japan)

which makes me think that the PS3 version might barely get to 1m, and the 360 version probably below 500k.

If I were Tecmo I would wait for PS4 and Durango to release Tekken X Street Fighter.

i dont know why people keep saying 3DS sales are meh
its average sales since the XL and Mario launched are 200k+ a week, and we all know how Mario games arent about Fw sales but legs

PS3 outsells Wii 3:1.. wii is priced at $149 an bundled with new super mario bros..

PS3 is priced at $249, and bundled at $299

no one.. except a couple of people including myself believed this would be a common thing this generation.. two years ago people would have died laughing at the thought that the ps3 would outsell the wii even 2:1 on a consistent basis anytime during this console generation...

too bad for the industry that the reason for this ratio isn't awesome ps3 sales, it's only much lower wii sales compared to two years ago, ps3 did not much for this ratio, they "only" lost 15% or so compared to the sales two years ago which is enough to get this ratio

I would say after the dull period from the early 2000's the fighting game genre had a decent turnaround with Street fighter 4, as usual they overproduced towards the end of the cycle and in a direction alot of gamers, especially those who are heavy fighting game nerds like me, didnt like.  This spells bad things for DOA5 next week.

Not to split hairs, but feeling all proud that the PS3 is outselling the Wii by any amount seems a little pointless, doesn't it? Not only is it a holiday console these days, but it's been known that the new iteration would be coming out soon even before the official date was given. I'm surprised the Wii has been selling anything at all for the past couple of months.

The Wii started to fade way before they announced the Wii U.

Well...yeah, because it's the same age as the PS3, has sold almost a hundred million units, nobody really wants them anymore and hasn't really had anything too spectacular come out for it in, well, a year?

It's like feeling all proud because you just outran a guy in a wheelchair, that's all.

I guess it's a matter of perspective.

Rewind back the clock a few years and the very notion of the numbers looking like they are now would be deemed utterly ridiculous. You would literally be laughed at by a large portion of the community on this site.

Back then the sky was the limit for the Wii and we had some wild predictions of it selling in excess of 300 million units. The terms 'blue ocean strategy' and 'innovation' were bandied about and the PS3 was the console that was going to end the playstation line and force Sony out of the console hardware business forever.

Fast forward a few years:

15th September 2012:

PS3: 124,415

Wii: 38,312

It's a bit of a shocker.

Yeah Capcom flooded the market after Street Fighter IV with more and more fighting games and those from other publishers failed either critically (Tekken 6) or in sales (SoulCalibur V). Dead or Alive 5 will probably follow these sales with currently 35k pre-orders for each version in the US.

It's a bit of a shocker.

Aye, true enough, the Wii started strong and went for broke, though wild speculation is never well tempered by reality. Ever. People say things that they feel are right (their opinion) but almost never end up true. What matters is that the Wii and PS3 alike are currently on the far end of their generation and the Wii just isn't getting the support anymore because Nintendo is focused on the WiiU and because the harder core gamers didn't see much point in buying it anymore. 96 million units later, the Wii has run its course. Nothing killed it, as it simply withered, went its way and Nintendo has done nothing to make it otherwise. Meanwhile, the 360 and PS3 get constant new support and new high profile games, thus keeping them from their own twilights. Thus the numbers as they stand.

Also, I don't really think anyone except the doomsayers ever figured the PS3 would be the final Sony system. It's a foolish idea, really, and even at its worst is was still selling reasonably well. I mean, the PS3 was never bad for sales. These days it, like the 360, aren't exactly setting records, but, that's just what happens.

Honestly though, it's not really a shocker at all. It is exactly as it has worked for ages in business. New product comes out after old product has slowly gone the way of the dinosaur, the numbers getting lower and lower, even lower than competitors, until the new thing comes out. I mean, the tech business is almost impossible to predict even a year out, but to think that Sony and Microsoft, who are both known for their long term plans, wouldn't keep up the interest in their investments even as Nintendo focused on getting their new console out first (which was never a surprise, because they're just catching up and getting past the 360 and PS3 now) would be pretty serious fallacy.

3DS continues to dominate! As an ambassador, I love seeing that.

I feel really bad for Vita right now. After that little spike from Miku, it has just continued to fall.

Is the Vita a flop a'la the Virtual Boy?

Not even close, I don't get how you get that idea...Virtual Boy didn't even manage a million units sold. Vita is at 2.5m+ without a Christmas holiday in the West (not to mention the biggest games are yet to come out)...

I've been reading that since a month after the Vita's launch (and they weren't talking about the games you are talking about).
