Oh yeah, and I'm still kinda pissed of that this thread was locked...

It was locked literally as soon as the first female posted in it. Coincidence? I think not. Jay520 was right when he said there was a smear campaign against female users from the mods, but I didn't believe it....until now.

We have no female members. It's like having a thread for North Koreans

(Seriously, everyone who had posted in that thread was male, except rutea who also said that it was a pointless thread).

The forum needs more passive trolls, because sometimes they keep threads interesting.

I mean, if you look at the mess that eulolgamer is in the comments section, vgchartz looks like kindergarten.

Don't know to which extent the site would gain more traffic and users that way and still remain a nice place to hang out or not.

Yeah, well at least I have a name, noname >_>

All the better to troll you with! "Who was trolling?" "I don't know, I didn't catch his name."

Working within the current standards and forum setup, you guys are doing a fine job.

Improvements can be made, but they're not the kind of improvements that can be made by reading the moderator handbook more closely, or rewriting the way you guys conduct yourselves.

Since it's the cool thing to do, I'll explain my vote too.

I do think the mod team is doing a great job now that there are enough of us to do it. Honestly, back when there were only a handful of active mods, mod jobs would just lie there for hours and days on end. That doesn't happen any more. Everything is dealt with promptly.

There is some inconsistency at the moment, and some innocent posts do get moderated, but this is inevitable, and it's happened at every point in this site's history. It should also calm down once the new mods have some more experience - though I should make it clear that I think they've all done a fantastic job so far.

I think we have to be especially careful with jokes. We don't want the site to be completely humourless, but there's a fine line between a good-humoured jibe and a genuine attack or troll post. A lot of it ends up being down to reputation, which isn't perfect, but certainly better than ignoring context completely.

For our part, we really do need to update the forum rules. Again, we are limited in this by what we have the technical ability to do - we can't actually edit the rules ourselves (put that on the long list of requested features). Ideally, nobody who is banned should be able to say "I had no reason to think I would be banned for that" or "that ban was unfair".

The passive trolls are the ones that need to be dealt with the most visibly, as they are the cancer eating away at healthy discourse. It just requires more and broader ability to read into things, and if i'm cultivating the impression that i'm only smacking anti-Nintendo stealth trolls its only because i've spent a long time (6 years or so) arguing with anti-Nintendo trolls in particular, and so am more familiar with the language they employ

But i strike out at other stuff that catches my eye but is not reported to us.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I 100% disagree with you about that thread being pointless. It had the potential for greatness, but you cut it down before it had time to blossom. Once the females began to post we could silently observe them and get inside the minds of women and learn their wicked ways. Alas, you continued the mods smear campaign against female users and killed it before we could see any of this. For shame...

I mean....when the one female says the thread is unneeded, then yeah....:/

Still, it would've been a funny thread.

I agree, stealth trolls are the worst, but perhaps banning so swiftly for it is a tiny bit off...then again, I can't see the mod history for the users so I dunno about any previous warnings.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I find as long as you don't say anything against Microsoft they are ok, they must be a bunch of 360 lovers IMHO. Much like governments today they take away the choice of the user to block a comment if they dont like it and not be a dictatorial bunch and ban willy nilly. If i read an abussive comment that i dont like then let me block it or just readpast it, dont do the wotk for me. Seems the way of the world these days :(
